SPOILERS:
I will move a bit against the grain here and state that the real intrigue for me of Disco Elysium, while fundamentally strong, isn’t Harry. It’s the pale and everything that surrounds it. The end of history. True, that it’s possible to play through the game and not even perceive its existence, but only get a glimpse of the dread it carries and how it is the exhaust of human cognition, and it how it proceeds to break down the physical reality, if the Harry you developed isn’t capable of comprehending pale in the context of metaphysics, you will completely miss it in your playthrough. Pale is confusing, the world is confusing, but the confusion is what brings things together, an attempt at explaining all these phenomena or lack thereafter by conceptualization.

The pale is unintentionally created by humans, perhaps something to do with a mix of nostalgia, and aimless wandering, one of the main themes of the game – being stuck in the past. The pale is the result of stolen future. Something we devour ourselves of.

The more people exist, the larger the pale becomes. The accumulation of *past* culture, nostalgia, longing for a world past its prime, in sense the circulation of information is what drives the pale – in my opinion. By paying attention to the way things were, we can end up blind to the way things could be.
The thing that stuck with me – Disco. The small origin of 2mm swallow pale in the church and why it never expanded for how long knows. The game gives you its answer to pale and the answer to the flood. Current culture, art, religion, love, and paradoxically - circulation of experience. Revachol is possibly saved *for now* only because Harry decided to help some junkies make speed and create music. The idea of passing something and creating ideas, DNA and in a way, memes is somewhat answer to pale. The intriguing part for me is – was it purposeful the church was built years and years ago around the pale for a reason?

The paledriver spent so much time going through the pale that she's now filled with memories that aren't her own. She hates being reminded of the ever-living moment that is now. She would rather trap the world in the past than see things how they are. And ultimately Harry too. Of course, that depends on how you play the game. That’s why the meeting with the phasmid is so symbolic, for me it introduces the rebirth of Harry and ‘’ I exist’’. While it heavily implies that existence precedes essence, I don’t personally see the beauty of the conflict between pale and humanity, I find the beauty in perceiving and trying to understand the conflict. We can create a sense of meaning while understanding the futility of joy. For some, the creation of dance club is the answer to pale. For some – it’s the pale itself.

The end of Disco and the dance - move forward. Only forward. Living in the past isn’t IT. IT becomes foggy and to some extent you don’t even know what you experienced. It’s like Harry said ‘’ I’m glad to be me – an incredibly sensitive instrument’. Open your heart to indifference. Love something and anything and learn to be better. It’s what the world tells you. Or just find meaning in the act of the conflict. You are your own answer. Move on.
