Early Access Review
-EARLY ACCESS REVIEW-

One of the games that makes me wish steam had a middle ground review as opposed to "Yes/No" recommendations. I'm giving it a "Yes" as it is by no means a bad game but if I had a choice I'd give it a neutral "Meh"

Cons:
-Very Linear: As it stands the Early access as of this writing gives you roughly 3-4 hours of content to play through. This 3-4 hours of gameplay felt extremely linear, no real branching paths or sense of exploration. Go to area, clear out boss, get their ability and the key to the next linear area, never return to that area. Typically games of this genre I'd hope for some non-linear exploration of some kind. Hopefully whatever comes after early-access is less linear.

-Slow and bland combat: Combat and movement feels very slow. Combat never felt engaging once to me during my time playing, slash your sword 3 times and move on, maybe mix in one of the over attacks you get as you progress but those sadly didn't make the combat any more fun for me. Your attacks, jumps, movement, and dodges all feel slow and overly weighty. We may be controlling a small girl but she sure moves like burly, large man. Made the already bland exploration feel like more of a chore than fun. Would love to see movement in general get a little speed boost.

Story: What little bits of story we get after fighting a boss feels more like an after thought than an actual component meant to be engaging. Maybe it's just because it's early access but what is currently there is immediately forgettable.

Pros:

Art: This game has a very clear and well thought out art-direction. They've got their own flavor of dark-fantasy flowing through the art and the animations are fantastic. A lot of love went into designing an interesting looking and grim world.

Music: The ambiance that the piano-laden tracks give is fantastic. It does a great job of selling the already great art by mixing in some meaningful and somber tracks.

Stability: Runs fantastic on my machine and never saw any kind of performance issue. Great job on optimization.

I'd say wait for Early-Access to end before picking this up. I may be an outlier in my feelings towards this game and perhaps I'm expecting too much but there's definitely a solid foundation here.
