Was a great game. Still is on a gameplay front, but the narrative side? When the game devs suddenly remove content that's been in the game for years... Well, it's not right.

Once a developer shows that they have no respect for what they have made, and no respect for the thing you have purchased, then why should you trust them again?

It's now... checks notes... just a few days shy of three years since the Dev* removed this content from the game.

*specifically, the CEO of the game, the sole person who was still "hands on" at the time.
In the immediate aftermath, he posted on Discord and made promises about how future updates would add new content. These of course have never materialised. In fact, he closed his Discord account, and removed all of these posts after the fact.

He (and as the CEO, therefore the developer company) do not care about giving the community the content that they originally purchased. They do not care about living up to the promises made, which were clearly just an attempt to appease the people who didn't like the change.

The game as it comes is lacking in content that should be avaliable to the purchaser/player and so I cannot, in full conscience recommend it.
The game remains as fun as far as gameplay goes as it always used to be, and I would give a "mid" recommendation if it existed, only because thanks to Steam's depot system, you can still play the original game despite the actions of the dev.

It's... fairly bland.
No real VR interactions to speak of - outside a couple of levers every now and then that you have to pull. Guns reload when you put them down by your side, single handed weapons only etc etc.

Music is terrible - in direction. You can be in an empty area, and suddenly the music starts blaring out of nowhere, fast paced action music and ...nothing happens. You spend the next 5 minutes with it blaring in your ears.

Performance is... Not great on a 6700K and 1070. Ended up at 60 with drops to 40 in areas.
99th percentile frame time is 19ms CPU and 18.5ms GPU with minimum graphics and no AA.

For a bundled game, it was entertaining enough, but I believe I was nearing the end when I ran into an issue with an invisible wall preventing me from progressing.
I could see the path ahead, but I couldn't use smooth loco or teleport to actually progress along it.
Reloading did not help.
Playspace mover did not help.

This review would have been "play it if you got it in a bundle etc" but as I can't even finish it... Can't recommend.

Wait... I haven't reviewed this yet?
Don't stop to read it. Click buy NOW!

HANDS DOWN the best gun sim you'll come across short of Airsoft or the real deal, and with those you don't get the variety.

Over 400 impressively detailed firearms with the best interactions available, a whole host of game modes, weekly updates with none of the content being paid DLC or subscription based, just one £15 price?

Should be at the top end of any "Best VR title" list. The fact it isn't is pretty criminal.

Take a promising hack and slash, and make it so that the camera lags behind the movement, so when running to the right, the character is on the right hand side of the screen so you can't see where you're going, what enemies are in front of you, and so bosses will hit you from off-screen.
Fun eh?

Can't really get into it. sorry.

They just took a dump on every single player who supported them.
not the game i bought.

I am going to request a refund - unlikely to get it - I've played the game a lot because it used to be good.

It went from one of the best PCVR games to something I would scrape off my boot. They have BROKEN the game in "new and exciting" ways.

It isn't just graphics... what have I experienced in just a few short hours?
enemies not being able to hear my gunshots - check
guns not being attached to hands properly? - check
decreased geometry resolution for hiding in cover? - check
objects floating in midair? - check.
being able to walk through solid objects? - check
Solid objects being invisible over 2m away acting as invisible cover? - check
guns not being cleaned up after rounds? - check
geometry LOD changes on the weapon you're holding in your hands? - check
removed maps? - check
existing maps made simple in really cheap ways, removing cover, unique features etc? - check.
Semi-transparent cover removed? - check - now there are no fences, or bushes, or barbed wire etc that you can see through.
Animations removed? - check
AI simplified? - check - there are now less on the map at any one time (and they try and pass off the new spawning system as allowing more AI) - instead, it means that enemies can and do, literally spawn in, right in front of you.
Interactions removed - check - enemy AI now no longer drops their weapons and equipment when killed

None of this can be improved, as anything in the game has to be supported by the quest version too. If the quest can't cope with something, now you can't have it on PC either.

Just tried to give it the benefit of the doubt (tried 1.7 first, but understandably, there are not really many PC players playing at the moment)

here are some of the bugs I encountered in about half an hour of trying to play:

• On one round, my gun wouldn't fire. In a shooter game.... you can see how that would go well.

• Ambient sounds on some maps are way too high.
You can't hear people right next to you.
Quarantine is particularly bad for this one - it's full of city sounds, like you're in the middle of Delhi in rush-hour. in an abandoned city.
• Night vision is completely screwed up. Turning it to greyscale, applying it to only the green channel, and increasing contrast is NOT night vision.
• Escort Flares don't render inside ~20m... so someone defending can literally sit behind one, and snipe people from it and no-one can see them.
• Of the 5 lobbies I tried. Only one had working voices. That's terrible
• The working lobby had the selection freeze so I couldn't select a class, ready up etc.
• couldn't get over steps to get into buildings in multiple places, on multiple maps
• You can't grab your gun for the first 10s or so (whereas before, you could grab it before you could even see anything)
• Had the enemy team spawn right next to (across open ground) my team. We all shot each other as soon as the 10s were up, as there was no cover either team could get to
• Got shot and downed. Teleported to the other side of the map, so couldn't radio my team. Got revived anyway, revived into the place my view had teleported to
• lighting is broke
• lighting is broken - can't see people in certain places - when the place they are in is all black, and they render as all black...
• Couldn't select a new map at the end of the round
• Couldn't navigate maps properly after dying - can't get near the ground, get blocked from going inside buildings...
• Can't communicate with the lobby after death if watching the game in spectator cam
• Players standing next to a smoke grenade can be clearly seen and shot, by players outside the effect.
• directional audio - broken - had a player to the left of me with his footsteps coming from the right

A mighty fine revision to a great first game. A real classic that everyone should play.
While the original game was... a bit buggy and raw, this new version is very polished and refined.

Bought the original game - got the remastered version for free as it was given to anyone who owned the original - thanks Zulubo!

Well... I gave it a go. Given away for free, so I figured I might as well... First red flag being with the hands.
They are clearly "hands on sticks" when it comes to the Vive Wands.
When we're talking about the Index controllers, that means that the hands are almost a foot away from your own and completely out of orientation.
The only hand pose is a pointed finger for pushing buttons, for which the only finger that needs to be retracted is the index finger with a trigger pull, so the exact opposite of what feels natural.
This is of course after spending nearly 20 minutes fiddling with Open Input Emulator to offset the controllers so that the in game hands would follow some semblance of the positioning of my IRL hands. The 90 degrees out of angle being particularly egregarious as after fixing that transform the other two rotations end up bound to the same axis (not a fault of this game per ce, but still vexing)

The following tutorial was rushed, and due to grabbing valves not being entirely as smooth as it could have been, I was still fumbling with setting them right, and trying to make sure the overly suspicios fire was out and O2 levels were correct, while the voice was already blathering on about the next set of controls.

It was at this point that my thumb brushed the trackpad, which sent me right back to the main menu.
I'm calling it a day at this point. I shall probably revisit this title later, but there are games that I paid for that I shall play through first before struggling with this one again, but for now, the hurdles of getting into the game were a bit too much.
Unfortunately, a bit more thought into how the control setup and controller/hand placement was configured (and most particularly an index controller update, just to get the correct offsets out of the box) would have done wonders.

I'd have loved for this review to actually have been on the content of the game itself, as it looked to be detailed on a technical level, and who knows what has been added on top, but VR is all about the interactions, and while it doesn't fall flat there, there is a barrier between myself and the game at this point that needs to be overcome.

Received free in steam giveaway.

This is a great utility, BUT it drifts. I can play a seated game for a while, so ensuring no turning in my space and have it tell me I've rotated all the way round multiple times.
While there are other apps that don't drift - I currently use FPSVR as I already had it for performance monitoring, I can't recommend Turn Signal over others.

Happy to re-review if/when this is fixed.

I've just finished playing.
It's not perfect - but honestly, it sets the bar for VR games, and not by a small measure either. It knocks them out of the park!

Received for free, because I have an Index.

I've been beta testing this, and now have the released version, so have used it for far more than the four hours listed (as of this review) and have been able to put it through it's paces.
One of the promises given on the store page is that the screen capture is performant, and on that it definitely delivers. On that alone, it gets my recommendation and replaces OVR Toolkit as the tool I will be using.

Time, controller battery levels and handy media controls are on the wrist interface, and has a GPU FPS graph too.
With all of these, it's on course to replace FPSVR too, at least for just checking these details on the fly.

Honest opinion, if you're looking for an overlay app, this one is better than OVR Toolkit and OVRDrop.

I did get this for free as a beta-tester (no additional compensation), but based on my experience with it during the beta period, I would have purchased it, and will be using it for the foreseeable future.
