ABSOLUTE Masterpiece of an Adventure
Larian are the true heirs and successors of the story-driven RPG throne, in the shoes of the old BioWare, Beamdog, and Obsidian. This game checks all the right boxes and more. Well-deserved GOTY for 2023 and definitely up there among the best games of all-time.

★★★★★ World Design (Universe, Lore, Story)
Based on the Dungeons & Dragons / Forgotten Realms universe, Baldur's Gate's lore is obviously immensely rich with many references/appearances with regard to the many deities, species, realms, geopolitics, history, etc. Despite the story's multiple layers, Larian's masterful storytelling and character development makes each act increasingly interesting as you go along.

★★★★☆ Gameplay (Combat, Exploration, Dialogue)
The tabletop pen-and-paper RPG experience offers so much freedom and replayability for combat, exploration, and dialogue. As someone who has never played DnD, I was not really fond of the chance-based dice roll system at first and having to leave pivotal "choices matter" moments to chance as I was used to the mechanics used in traditional games like SW: KOTOR, Fallout, and Dragon Age. Combat-wise - although it is less difficult/punishing than traditional DnD - its still relatively more challenging compared to Divinity Original Sin 2 and many other RPGs I've played, invoking a stronger imperative to stick to your character's strengths and prepare prudently for every encounter. Inventory and character management is seamless and easily done from one party / character
overview screen, although a search bar for the camp chest would be good.

★★★★★ Level Design (Environment & Space)
Each environment and location for each act is curated incredibly well to fit the story and tone, with many places to explore and rewarding secrets in nooks & crannies for completionists to uncover. Levels are dense with content, so exploration never feels exhausting unlike in "map junk-clearing open world games".

★★★★☆ Graphical Fidelity & Performance
AAA-tier graphics for a tabletop cRPG, well-optimised, runs great on PC and decently well on the ASUS ROG Ally Z1 Extreme[rog.asus.com] with the right settings.

★★★★☆ Multiplayer
Great multiplayer, but just like in the Divinity: Original Sin games, the interactions with other origin characters are going to be weaker than in single-player mode because you'll miss out many conversations, voice lines, and quips. But of course, it's all about the joy of playing with friends.

★★★★★ Soundtrack / OST
I have a feeling nostalgia is gonna hit when I listen to the OST far into the future but I still slightly prefer Divinity Original Sin 2's OST better.

★★★★★ Mod Support
Official mod support can easily increase a game's lifespan, replayability, and overall fun. Props to Larian for working on this and for other platforms too.

The game had way too much potential gone to waste. The game is no longer relevant. There are many good things about the game, just not enough to cover up or justify their mistakes. CDPR's developers deserved more time and deserved better.
