Warhammer 3 is a solid Total War game. The campaign is more interesting due to more quest battles and the different realms of chaos. There are more diplomacy options, notably alliances/outposts and settlement trading. Sieges are somewhat better than previous games, which is a low bar. A big issue is that most settlement maps consist of narrow streets, which leads to pathfinding issues and cheesy strategy. But I find it better than running troops at gates and walls.

Units are mostly responsive. Calvary charges feel quite satisfying. There remain issues with line of sight for gunpowder issues, requiring micromanagement to reposition in some situations. Calvary is also bad at chasing routing units, requiring repeat attack orders to keep them chasing. AI appears improved. In one remarkable instance, Sarthoreal flew ahead of his army to cast vortex spells on my reinforcing troops as they just entered the map. Because they were crowded up and unable to attack, this inflicted substantial damage, and demonstrated a type of genius that would only occur to a player trying to cheese Total War. Nevertheless, most battles feel like puzzles rather than actual battles, where you figure out how you can trick the AI into unfavourable engagements. This is still a type of fun. Too strong an AI, and most turns would be spent waiting for replenishment.

The map design is visually beautiful, with details and landmarks that are tied to the lore. The land battle maps are also quite good, with stunning environs and often 1-2 features on the map that allow for strategic play (such as hills, forests, chokepoints).

As someone with an older PC, I was able to run this game well. Land battles run as well as Warhammer 2. Campaign loading times are noticeably long and a pain, even on SSD.
