About Us

Sunset Gulch Mining Company is a Class II railroad that operates in the States of Oregon and Idaho. It mainly operates in the small mining and railroad community of Sunset Gulch, OR, where coal, iron ore, oil and originally gemstones are mined for bulk sale.

The SGMR operates around and within a large, naturally-formed gulch of the same name, where diamonds were discovered in the caverns. When westward pioneer John MacKivler discovered the gulch, he noticed that the sun set perfectly in between the river that flows through it. He then went to establish the small, hopeful community of Sunset Gulch.

SOO #2010

I know nobody cares about this group anymore, but I'd like to share something about what I've been doing while I was gone.

Since last December, I've been working to have SOO #2010, the last ex-Milwaukee Road GP40, preserved at my hometown's museum. It's been a rough road with calls leading to nowhere and executives not caring enough to help (probably because they're dealing with the whole CP/KCS/CN ordeal right now.), but I've gotten some support from the museum and a few special people.

I've recently gotten in contact with a former C&NW engineer (25-30 years experience) and his son. Let's call them J and S respectively. S and I got together at the museum to talk about #2010, and where to display her at the site. J, the engineer, came back from a vacation in Florida and had to undergo eye surgery, so S is waiting to talk to him about it as of today.

I wish to thank them greatly for the help and support they've given me and the museum so far, and I hope we can get rolling on saving #2010 from the scrappers.

Here's some info on #2010.

She was originally MILW #190 when she was built in October of 1966. She was involved in a wreck in Whitman, MN that same year with MILW #180. I believe they introduced the 2000 series numbers in the mid/late 70's? I'm not too familiar with the GP40s' operating areas at the time as information is scarce. But when the SOO Line came and bought the Milwaukee Road, they started coming to Minnesota more often, and quite possibly came through my town.

As of July 2021, she's still in Humboldt Yard in Minneapolis, MN, on the sideline. (sidelined in 2015)

New Project (Help Wanted)

I'm working on a new SGMCORR SD40-2, and I need help with some wiring stuff. The list will extend over the course of a few days to expand my creation horizons.

The following is a list of things I need help with in Wiremod. Any E2s or wiring techniques that you are willing to share are welcome.

- Horn Sounds
When I press (key), the sound emitters play a loop of (horn sound). I want to know how the end sound plays when you release (key).

Please know that I'm not trying to annoy anyone who reads this.

If you have any ideas and/or techniques you'd like to share, I have a discussion open for all of you. Thanks.
