MicroProse News: Open Wheel Manager 2 races out of Early Access

This week Open Wheel Manager 2 raced out of early access. The team at Paprikash has been steadily improving the game based on your feedback and has made some real game changing adjustments that changed the way you manage a motorsport team.
https://gtm.you1.cn/storesteam/app/1757580/Open_Wheel_Manager_2/

With these changes now firmly in place we felt it was a good time to give you a few tips when you start your next management career

Top 5 things to know when starting out.

1. Manager Age, Stats and Initial Team selection all contribute to your challenge.

When you first create your manager, you can set their age. The younger a manager is, the fewer points are rolled. We recommend re-rolling until you see stats you are comfortable with. Negotiation skills are very important as these will help you quickly accrue points that can be used for landing sponsorship deals and negotiate contracts with suppliers, staff and drivers.

Factory Teams vs Private Teams: When choosing a team to start your management career with you will notice there are now factory and private teams. Each of these teams has a budget and different stats as far as facilities and other key elements are concerned. The higher the stats, the easier your path to victory. Factory teams tend to be wealthier and offer an easy path to victory, with the downside being that you don't see dividends at the end of each season that can contribute to your education and may limit your ability to purchase your way into another team.

2. Play the long game

If taking on the role of a manager for a low level team or a private team, you may need to think about the next season and the season after that as an opportunity to get your team on the podium. Even a high level team will need its managers to maintain that winning streak. So be sure to think about the next season.

3. Simulate races instead of managing them

Whilst the opportunity to manage each race is there, the contribution you can provide on race day is purely one of conservation. Trust your team to do their jobs and you will find you can make your way through a season in the space of an hour or less. Whilst offering guidance during a race may help conserve an engine or give you better awareness of driver skill, the underlying reliability issues in your cars can still play a factor in drivers not being able to finish a race.

4. Keep an eye on your car

After each race different parts on your car will degrade. This will lead to drops in performance. You will need to manage your production points and bank balance in order to choose what to repair before the next race.

Close to the end of the season and unlikely to make into the points? Maybe that last race is a good opportunity to save money.

Don't have enough production points to fix both cars or can only bring each car up to an average level by splitting the points? Perhaps you should consider favoring one car over another.

New upgrade arrived, but the current part is still performing well? A harder choice, do you wait another race or spend the points and money to upgrade it early.

5. Don't forget to negotiate

Negotiating sponsorship well will often mean the majority of your costs are covered for the next season.

Negotiate staff, driver and parts at the start of the season. Many of these will give you feedback on your negotiation and make a decision as early as mid-year.

Negotiation for Production, Design and Marketing heads is often a trade off between their skill and leadership. Good leaders will rally those staff employed in their facility. They can ensure staff gain experience quicker and ultimately result in you gaining more points in each category.

Negotiation for parts is often one of performance over reliability. Are you willing to accept a few DNFs in order to get to the finish line with better performance in a higher position, or would you prefer always making it to the finish line?

Drivers are the force multiplier in your car, spend what you can afford and attract to get the most out of them.

You may need to negotiate with your second choice in case your first choice accepts an offer, so play the field.

Bonus Tip
Invest in your education as a manager. This will improve your base stats over the course of each season. The more you invest the greater the chance of an upgrade.

Good Luck out there
I hope these tips have been helpful and we wish you the greatest of success on the track.

For those of you who purchased the original game, you will find an additional discount when you buy it in the complete the set bundle.
