ABOUT Fix Quickplay Now!

Valve, please fix Quickplay and remember the communities that made TF2 great!

This group serves as a formal petition to Valve to let the TF2 community's voice be heard. Each member that joins this group is one more who is trying to send a message to Valve.

The Problem
For those that don't know, on January 23rd 2014 Valve officially changed how quickplay matched players to servers.

To fix numerous abuses they changed it so that it by default it matched players to Valve servers only. To allow community servers a player is required to change the quick play settings.

This is not made clear and it punishes server owners and communities that required a steady stream of players to survive.

The community input is what made TF2 great. New game modes, new maps and new content generally came about through community involvement.

In addition, teamwork and a sense of community spirit is what kept communities fresh and interesting and allowed for competitive play between other groups.

Quickplay has destroyed custom content, and severely damaged even large communities built around TF2 that now struggle to survive.

Even older players have left TF2 for good thanks to the lack of good community servers. Many do not want to play on souless Valve servers without familiar faces.

Solutions

Solutions proposed so far, many found on the HLDS mailing list (will be added to).

Many can work together with others to form a comprehensive solution.

1) You are put onto Valve servers initially for a couple of hours or more after which community servers are suggested. This is to allow a new player to get used to vanilla play.

2) A big button to select between community server suggestions and valve server suggestions.

3) Some form of comprehensive rating system that could be used to rank servers.

4) An individually account based blacklist system. Bad servers would get blacklisted by many people and eventually lose traffic.

http://Browser.TF/ A web-side Server Browser for Team Fortress 2. I am still working on it, but I believe it is stable.

Thanks.
