“Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.”

Such is the story of so many around the world today. The quest for wealth, for happiness, for enlightenment- it drives us all. What would we be if we did not have a goal, a light at the end of the tunnel of life? Empty, some would say, or apathetic- maybe even inhuman.

But we have to take a step back, look once more at ourselves- or rather, or search. Why do we seek? We seek- we search- for we do not have. We search for happiness not because we are happy, but rather because we are not. And as long as we do not have, we will continue to hunt for the ghosts of all we desire, perpetually out of reach, and because we have to hunt, we cannot have. We can reach enlightenment through conscious thought no more than a man can reach rest on a treadmill. He could run as fast as he may, or walk as slow as he wanted, but the net result is nothing- the treadmill has not moved an inch, and neither has he. The only rest there is, we must realize, is when he stops.

And much like this man on the eternal run, we can never find happiness by running towards the speck in the horizon. It is when we stop- when we realize that we will never acquire happiness like some material good, or perhaps with a material good, and accept who we are, what we have, the status quo, and be content- then, we will be happy.

Similarly, when we realize the pursuit of this concept of enlightenment is but foolishness, and learn that perhaps, there is no deep secret, no mystery, no hidden meaning to life- that life just is- then, we will be enlightened.

We seek for we have not found. We stop- because we have.
