The baby will become the Prince or Princess of Asturias following its birth, replacing His Royal Majesty the King's older sister, Isabella, Princess of Asturias. Following the announcement, the King and Queen were congratulated and wished the best of luck for their future child. However, it is unknown if the Queen will die during childbirth or the unborn baby will not survive. King Alfonso's first wife, Mercedes of Orléans had a miscarriage shortly before her early death at age eighteen, two years ago.

As Liberal influence in the Spanish Government grows, Conservative Prime Minister Antonio Cánovas del Castillo repulses them and holds the Conservative Party together. As a General Election approaches, will the Conservatives hold on to power or will the Liberals gain control of the government?

Maria Christina walked down the aisle beside her older brother, Archduke Friedrich and was married by the Archbishop of Toledo. Following the wedding ceremony was a coronation of the new Queen Consort of Spain. This became a National Day of Celebration and workers were allowed to take the day off. As the Royal Couple left the Basilica in a horse-drawn-carriage, crowds lined the streets, throwing flowers at the carriage. As they approached the Royal Palace, a Republican Anarchist opened fire on the carriage, killing two guards and injuring three more. Luckily, the Royals were unharmed and the assassin was reprehended. The Republican Anarchist was later convicted of attempted Regicide and Garroted two weeks later. The King and Queen decided to go to Switzerland for their honeymoon and visited the cities of Bern and Zürich.

During the Royal Wedding between King Alfonso and Queen Maria Christina, the Siege of Las Tunas was temporarily halted as army rested and celebrated. The General read telegraphs from Madrid detailing the Wedding. When the day ended, hostilities resumed and artillery began firing at the Walls of Las Tunas once again.
