I thought I'd never play a game intended for 3DS because I never cared for it when it came out, but I did, and I had a lot of fun. I wrote a little on Resident Evil: Revelation's many references to Dante's Divine Comedy, as well as briefly touched on some allegories between the Terragrigia Panic and the real world War on Terror. It's sort of a work in progress, and I definitely want it to be more thorough, but I thought I had enough to share for now.

I am currently re-reading Mark Fisher's Capitalist Realism.

Fisher's insight into how capitalism shapes culture still seems to stick. Especially if you start to look at all these remakes (i.e. Dead Space, RE2-4, SH2) and the fixation on aesthetics from previous era (i.e. VHS, PSX, 2000s). It's not hard to imagine current cultural output to be stuck in a sort of feedback loop, to be at an impasse. There is nothing wrong with being nostalgic. But it can become problematic when we stop imagining new futures, and instead only focus on reviving and the past. Culture can become somewhat stale.

I wrote a descriptive essay some time ago about comparing and contrasting the different conceptualizations of empathy in horror media, particularly in video game and film. Here it is.
