Controversy.
I've decided to put this ontop of the review before starting it.
Kill la Kill has had many mixed thoughts, reviews, and outlooks by people due to the fact that the transformations of the characters have lots of their bodies exposed, and even have characters nude in it and arguably instances of sexual harassment. However the deep part of the story revolves around the power of clothing and what it does to the students in the anime. People argue that the whole no clothing and being exposed
is part of the fan service or even part of the story. However really honestly I find that the story and the idea behind this anime makes you forget how these characters actually look. The sexual harassment was not fan service and was part of the story to actually make you cringe. Really honestly give this anime a try, don't drop it after the first, second or even third episode.
I really honestly think this is something new and different and should be given a try. I only don't recommend people that are prude or even slightly prude to watch it if they feel it's too much for them.

Who ?
Kill la Kill is the first production created by the Trigger studios
and is directed by the same people who have directed Gurren Laggen
( the anime itself has very similar characteristics and themes. )
The anime has 24 episodes so it's not that long either, however
there are only 2 volumes so far of the manga supposedly but it's ongoing.

What and Where?
Transfer student Ryuko Matoi is searching for her father's killer as he left her a special weapon that resembles half a scissor, trying to find whoever has the other half being the potential killer. She is transfered to a school called " Honnouji Academy. " The school is lead by the president who has a strong dictatorship over all, Satsuki Kiryuin.
She leads the entire highschool with her student council which all defend her and do her work. The school works on a ranking system where uniforms that the students wear have things called " life fibers."
Which grant whoever wears them power, the higher the rank the more "stars" a uniform has, ( higher percentage of life fibers )
granting more power to the user. Ryuko Matoi notices the Satsuki Ryuko's dictatorship and the students that follow her and challenges
her way through the highschool in hopes of fighting her in belief that she has information on her father's killer. Ryuko is later finds her own uniform that her father made for her before he was killed, and it grants her more power and capabilities to fight through the highschool, the uniform has transformations that uses her blood and in moderation can give her extreme power.
Learning through fighting, her half scissor can cut through uniforms and destroy life fibers.
As the story goes things pretty much just get more epic and crazier. Other reviewers would say the plot broken down isn't original,
however in my opinion the way the hero works through all this is entirely original and crazy in it's own way which makes this show
completely different from any other anime out there.

Animation, voices, and soundtrack.
The animation is not 10/10 but I mean, even I don't notice this unless I'm actually concentrating on the quality of the animation.
That being said I'd give it a 8/10 or even higher because this is a completely new studio animating their first anime and really when
you look at the industry and how it is. They did aced it on how they decided to bring out the animation.

Being a fan of subs and never actually watching english dub.
The original Japanese audio is 10/10,
and really as expected, I've never had a problem with the original audio.
However the english dub as normally I'm not a fan of, this series dub was tolerable and 7 or 8 out of 10.

Soundtrack was great in my opinion, I even went back and bothered getting the OST.
After actually watching the anime and listening to the OST it always put me in a awesome mood.


My views/conclusion.
Remember watching Gurren lagann? ( if you haven't I seriously recommend you go do that at some point. )
Remember that awesome epic feeling you got that filled you with awesomeness and power?
This anime brings it back ( due to the directors ) and you won't be disappointed.
This anime had brought back that feeling of looking forward to the next episode.
The action, plot, characters. Everything about it made me want more, the nudity and etc,
honestly I gurrantee unless you're a prude you won't see them being exposed or nude during the action,
you just compeletely forget. That's how great this anime was for me.
In conclusion with all the good and the bad I give it a 8 or 9 out of 10.

What are you nerds currently watching?

Firstly, it feels great to be back on Steam. A short-circuited ethernet port and a lack of a wireless card have kept me offline for the past 55 or so days. However, now that I'm back, I can give you the Initial D review that I promised.

Let me start by saying that Initial D is an ongoing manga meaning that there is no conclusion to the manga yet. However, the final volumes should come out this summer, giving us a greatly anticipated conclusion after 18 years of epic racing.

Overview: Initial D is a manga written and illustrated by Shuichi Shigeno. It is a black and white manga, which started in 1995. For those of you who judge mangas based on the quality of the illustrations, the artwork is just fine and will appeal to the vast majority of the population. The faces are well defined and the cars are extremely detailed, making them easily recognizable. The translation is also fairly well done with very few grammatical errors and nearly no spelling errors. Certain volumes also include a translator's note for further comprehension of uniquely Japanese words and idioms.

Storyline: Initial D is all about street racers in Japan, particularly a tofu delivery driver who drives an outdated hachi-roku (Toyota Corolla), racing the greatest racers in Japan. The two main characters are Takumi Fujiwara and Itsuki Takeuchi. Takumi shows no interest in driving, let alone racing. Itsuki, who sucks at driving, dreams of becoming the fastest racer on Mount Akina. On top of sucking at driving, Itsuki is an ignorant, incompetent fool who you will be making fun of throughout the entire series. One may think that the racing must get super repetitive, especially after 666 volumes of it, but they're very wrong. The races just get more and more intense as the story goes on throught the introduction of crazy new driving techniques and miraculous overtakes that leave your heart pounding and your jaw dropped in awe. If you are a fan of cars, racing, action and adventure, this manga is a must read. It is also great for people who are new to racing; Initial D taught me a great deal about old cars and racing. I only expected to get through 2-300 volumes before getting bored, but found myself completing all 666 of them within a couple months.

Anime: The anime is more suitable for those of you who aren't racing fans as it is funnier and has more action. However, the anime only has 5 stages, which only cover the first 180 or so volumes (up until Project D). This was a bit of a disappointment as Project D was the turning point in the manga. The racers pro team and started to race in all regions of Japan rather than just the Gunma Prefecture. Throughout Project D, the racers proved that touge racers could be just as good as circuit racers. IMO, it was the most exciting part of the manga and it's a shame they chose not to make an anime for it. Despite the lack of Project D, the anime is still very well done. The races are much more action packed, not only because you feel like a part of the race, but also because the music is just so epic… so much so that I found myself downloading the entire Initial D track collection to my iPod to listen to while I drive.



Live Action Movie: Now, this was a bit of a disappointment. The scripted characters did not reflect the characters of the manga/anime very well. They made Bunta (Takumi's father) seem like an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, they changed the story, they mixed up the characters, the racing scenes were subpar and it was recorded in Cantonese. On top of that, they didn't even include the epic music featured in the anime. The live action movie was poorly done and I believe that most Initial D fans will agree with me on this one. If you're interested in seeing some epic drifting IRL, just watch some of Team Orange's videos or check out some of Keiichi Tsuchiya's videos for the best hachi-roku drifting and touge racing.

Conclusion: Both the manga and the anime were breathtaking. The anime is great to watch with a group of close friends, as you don't want to be the only one in your friend group making hilarious Initial D references. (I'm sure Ellipsis can tell you all about that) The manga was nearly as fast paced as the anime. I definitely recommend that all of you read and watch Initial D and, if you do decide to watch the live action movie, I suggest watching the anime first.
