Finally, some low-level anti-cheat efforts! Probably the best news I've heard for PC gamers all decade! Let's hope it's fairly effective... or at least forces cheaters to frak up their systems so bad that fewer risk doing so.

The Verge: Microsoft quietly added an anti-cheat game feature to Windows 10[google.com]

The anti-cheat system is called TruePlay. If effective, this will be a serious game changer. We probably won't see be seeing it in games until next year.

And it will likely be exclusive to UWP, offering the first real incentive to play on the Universal Windows Platform rather than Steam, Origin, etc. With UWP, we'd sacrifice some control over this part of our machines and be forced to buy through the Windows Store. It's kinda like having a console within your PC, but if that means significantly less cheating, this could revive online PC gaming in a major way. Plus you'd still have full control outside of UWP for legacy games, apps, etc.

Discord is a simple, free, and lightweight gaming tool that helps us organize games. It alerts you of events while in-game while letting you choose what specifically interest you. Although it runs works fine in any browser, downloading the Windows or smartphone app is best. Microphone voice communications are supported but not required. It also runs fine along-side TeamSpeak, Skype, Ventrillo, etc.

Battlefield has always had a strong following. Even after 3 years, Battlefield 4 still shows a reasonable playerbase. This year, Battlefield 1 had a spectacular launch and is doing quite well.

Find out why Overwatch was just awarded Game of the Year. The game plays super smooth and has a healthy playerbase even on PC. Good team planning dominates in this game. If you're looking to get away from the more toxic shooter communities, Overwatch can be very satisfying ...especially with good teamwork.
