The year is now 2000 C.E. Europe has gone from the age Charlemagne, through the colonial and industrial periods, to now 10 years after overcoming the red menace. Yet new threats loom on the global scene.

Russia has risen from the ashes of the Soviet Union to carve out their own great power. The newly elected president Vladimir Putin is intent on reclaiming some of his homeland's former glory.

Meanwhile, the USA struggles to maintain its position as leading world superpower. Not only does Russia contend the USA's power, but now China, who has risen from the age of Deng Xiaoping to become a rising economic and military power, vies for a position amongst the global superpowers.

In Europe, the formation of the EU and the ongoing adoption of the Euro has led to a unification amongst the regional powers like none before. NATO continues to spread its influence into the Baltic, and seeks to fill the military void left by the dissolving of the USSR in Eastern Europe.

Elsewhere, new threats have arisen. North Korea is increasingly volatile. The Middle East and Africa seem to continually devolve in stability by the minute, and the rising threat of Islamic Extremism seeks to continue that trend...
