DC Comics is one of the largest and most successful companies operating in American comic books, and produces material featuring many well-known characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Hawkgirl, and Green Arrow. The fictional DC universe also features superhero teams such as the Justice League, Justice Society, and the Teen Titans, as well as antagonists such as the Joker, Lex Luthor, Catwoman, Darkseid, Black Manta, Deathstroke, Sinestro, and Professor Zoom.

Vertigo is an imprint of the American comic-book publisher DC Comics. It was originally created to do stories that could not meet the stringent guidelines of the Comics Code Authority and this allowed their comics to have more graphic content than their main imprint of titles. This also meant that their age-restricted titles were free to contain explicit contents of violence, substance abuse, sexuality, nudity, profanity, and other controversial subjects similar to that of an R-rated film.

Image Comics is an American comic book publisher. It was founded in 1992 by high-profile illustrators as a venue where creators could publish their material without giving up the copyrights to the characters they created, as creator-owned properties. It was immediately successful, and remains one of the largest comic book publishers in North America. Its output was originally dominated by work from the studios of the Image partners, but later included work by numerous independent creators. Its best-known series include Spawn, Savage Dragon, Witchblade, The Darkness, Invincible, The Walking Dead, Saga, Chew, and Haunt.

Skybound Entertainment is a comics publishing imprint founded by Robert Kirkman in 2010, after he became a partner in Image Comics in 2008. It is the first new studio established in connection with Image Comics since the company was founded in the early 1990s, joining Highbrow Entertainment, Todd McFarlane Productions, Top Cow Productions, and Shadowline.
