Solo or Group for first playthrough?
It feels like playing in a group you usually get someone who skips through the story dialogue, or rushes, or shows you all the secrets, but playing solo can be grindy and really difficult cuz of how the combat is. What do you guys recommend? Solo? 2 players? 4 players? for the best first experience.

I prefer solo but that's just me. There is a lot to do in the game and not necessarily in the strictest of order and with a relaxed pace. I play on easy difficulty because I most likely will never master the supposedly easy to do perfect blocking and I'm fine with it - the game is challenging enough for me and the "creepy" factor of bugs is there regardless.

I'd say the potential to have content spoiled or cheesed by seasoned players is high and there's some great content in this game. So team up with some noobs or go it solo, IMO, if you care about such things.

Clay is easy - orange patches near shallow (think swamp) water. You have to explore the yard and go further and further out to find stuff. One could say the yard is a bit more intimidating solo than it might be with a crew.

Yeah combat is also pretty trivial with a partner cuz you can just get free hits in since bugs dont have AOE attacks usually. And its true what you said, u get a lot of cool stuff spoiled by seasoned players. Gonna give it a solo go.

Solo is pretty much all I’ve played for almost 400 hours and it’s fine. The grind is way less than back in the early access days, particularly for base building where you only had one person going out and carrying materials back and forth.

Through various updates and equipment/mutation changes this is now far less of a problem than it was for solo players back then.

I play on Whoa difficulty and I do NOT recommend that for a first time playthrough. Mild or medium is fine.
