WrongThinker Thinks #10 - In Which We Say Goodnight
Hello everyone, WrongThinker here.

Late this week, I was given notice that the decision had been made to permanently shut down the TOME servers in the very near future (though the exact date is TBD). This decision, sad though it may be, was indeed a reasonable one, as the audience for the game was simply too low to justify keeping it up and running.

I’m personally very sorry I wasn't able to get the patch out prior to this shutdown, since I know you were looking forward to it. I tried my very best, but sometimes that’s just not enough.

That said, as I shift my attention to other KIXEYE projects, I’m very thankful to the kind people at the company who gave me the opportunity to keep working on TOME as long as I did and for keeping the servers on for those of you who played. Additional thanks to the many talented people who helped with it’s development (and post-development development). There are simply too many talented people to list here.

Perhaps most importantly, I am truly thankful to have to have gotten to know and interact with so many of you over the past two-and-a-half years, through the early beta, streams, and forums. Though the team and I were always passionate about making TOME the best it could be, I've always felt that our passion was dwarfed by all of yours.

Thank you so much for that. :)

-Kyle

Thats rather unfortunate. The reason the game died was due to lack of devs and updates and well... A lot of things. If we had even another year of REAL FULL devs and marketing. I think this game would have been ressurected (Resolution added, more heros, more items, more things to actually slay, etc.) Shame they shut down a game that was actually good... Are there ANY hopes for them to change their minds? Or possibly make a new moba that is like this one that you can tell us?

I dunno if WT actually keeps track of this but I'd say :

If you have failed with a certain genre, you probably dont want to do the same mistake again - Any CEO I could imagine.

if ever, then it will not be kixeye for sure. ( 99%)

It was lucky that we had the servers up for so long, but as someone stated in an earlier post, it would be a waste of resources since tome has no income for kixeye anymore ( only costs in form of servers )

While I'm late to this: Sad to see this game go. Wrongthinker did a good job at trying to revive it, but it wasn't to be. It could have been really good, but it was ruined by Zymethgames (before that "unofficial development" phase with Wrongthinker).

They showed severe lack of knowledge regarding the free2play market, and specifically commonplace features and draws for MOBA type games, and if brought to their attention they shut down any discussion about it trying to blame it on some imagined short-sightedness of the player. ("Oh, you bought our all guardian pack and now you're complaining that you didn't get enough." - No, I didn't buy it. I wrote that I didn't buy it, and that I wouldn't buy it because there's this GIANT HOLE of incoherent, poor progression and economy design in your game that I tried to bring to your attention, thank you very much.)

To be honest, I saw this game going down way before it did, even though I had hopes for it when it then entered "inofficial development". For that phase, I am sad. It was a valiant effort on both Wrongthinkers part, the other devs at KIXEYE who spent time on it, and the community.
This game could have been good, REALLY good, if someone had bothered to design a compelling ingame-economy, a coherent progression system and a matching monetization.

Moment-to-moment gameplay, the matches, were really fun. But a MOBA is more than the matches, the progression outside of matches IS relevant. And Monetization CAN make or break a game.

In any case, I wish Wrongthinker and their coworkers all the best for these future projects, and thanks for the time with TOME that we had.

Surprise, iam reading this.

Tha game Devs were cool, but they were ignoring way too much repsonse from the community and thus it failed.

Also iam not giving a ♥♥♥♥ on your opinion ( mainly because I dont know what you actually want from me ) .

Bye H8r.

I don't want anything from you, I'm just putting most of the blame for the failure of a good game idea on you. That's a risk that comes with responsibility. You've obviously been involved in the development, you've been active on the forum as a publisher representative, you could or should have been one of the people relaying the very same response from the community to the developers that you now accuse them of ignoring, or, better yet, as a publisher, make decisions and enforce certain development choices.

And with that, I'm unsubscribing from here, because I can't take someone seriously who, in this position, doesn't properly spellcheck his messages, curses in his posts, tells potential customers he doesn't care about their opinion while blaming others for ignoring customer response, and closes a message with "Bye H8r" ... I mean, H8r? Really? That's just... no.

Goodbye, Zymethgames.
...I think I'll just leave it at that.

I wasnt involved in the development at all, or did you see my name as a dev somewhere? lol.

WHAT HAPPEND TO TOME AFTER THIS????

i gotta say, with almost 200 games in my library, i have been around the block and collecting back since the N64. I have played a lot of games. I still come back and just look at Tome in my library sometimes and wish it was still running. This is still one of my all time favorite games, especially in the MOBA genre. I am incredibly sad that it won't be running probably ever again. I believe that this was a great game from a great team, it just never got the chance to truly be as great as some of us realized it could be. WrongThinker.. you ♥♥♥♥♥♥' rock.
