Our 4th and biggest patch yet has just been deployed for Star Wars Outlaws across all platforms!

This Title Update brings changes to combat and stealth allowing for greater player choice, the ability to now keep pick-up weapons in more situations, visual options to allow for a sharper image and much more to improve your journey across the galaxy. Also, we have just deployed a temporary hotfix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing issues playing on Windows 11 24H2. Please note that you may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix. As soon as it is ready, we will let you know. Thank you for your patience.

• Notable updates to stealth and combat that allow players greater choice, including using stealth or reaching for their blaster, even in syndicate territories in cities.

• Added a new auto-transfer option for climbing, which lets you automatically hop between climbable objects by moving towards them instead of having to press a button
  
• Added setting to change how large and clear the effect showing the security camera detection area is
  
• Sound effects slider split into two separate sliders, for gameplay sounds and background sounds
  
• Faster menu narration, settings now go up to 400% speed.

Welcome back to another Dev Update from the Star Wars Outlaws Team!

This time, we’d like to dive further into player choice – specifically, the agency given to you to decide whether you’d like to use a stealthier or more combat-focused approach.

Since launch, we’ve made some adjustments to the game experience to ensure you have options on how you approach situations across your journey – for example, you can now choose to go in combat-first around Syndicate territories or approach them from the shadows. Star Wars Outlaws represent to us a true scoundrel experience and as Kay and Nix are street thieves by trade, stealth will always be an option for players that prefer that playstyle – but we heard your feedback, and we’re implementing changes that allow for greater player freedom and embracing more playstyles.

Player choice has always been a core focus of Star Wars Outlaws, but after listening to your feedback, we've realized there’s more we can do to give you even greater freedom. Restrictions like “Do not raise the alarm” or “Do not get caught” in quests were forcing players into stealthy playstyles, limiting the ability to choose whether to use combat or not. As a result, some quests could feel frustrating or unfair. We also found that detection mechanics could be unpredictable and inconsistent as well. As you know, Title Update 1.4.0 will bring the biggest improvements to this and I’ve shared some more details on that below.

Our first step in expanding player choice is removing forced stealth from almost all quest objectives. This doesn’t mean that sneaking is no longer a viable or even preferable option in some cases. Rather, if you're caught while sneaking, the objective won't fail and reset you to the last checkpoint. Instead, you’ll seamlessly transition into combat. We know many of you enjoy the stealth approach, so it was important to us to preserve that playstyle while also giving you the freedom to decide how to tackle each mission. Ultimately, you’ll have the choice to sneak, go in combat-first, or—my personal favorite—sneak until you're caught and then blast your way out. And if you end up in combat, you’ll get to experience the new and improved combat loop described in our Dev Update #2.

Our changes don’t stop with just quests though. We've also enabled combat in syndicate districts, which previously only allowed for stealth. This means you can still enter a syndicate district peacefully if you’ve built a good reputation with that syndicate or sneak past their guards, but now you also have the option to fight your way through if you prefer. Again, this is all to maximize your agency and choice.

And we’re not stopping there. We’re also expanding player choice in broader ways. For example, you can now pick up and keep weapons you find in the field for much longer, with more opportunities to use them in various scenarios. We’ve also added more meaningful combat decisions, like targeting specific enemy body parts for powerful headshots and exploiting weak points. The addition of positioning and timing tactics will also make combat scenarios more dynamic. Our goal is to let you play the way you want to play.

We are more and more thrilled as we get closer to the release of Star Wars Outlaws on Steam, on November 21st!

During the past couple of months, we’ve been hard at work creating multiple title updates that brought optimization, gameplay polishing and tweaks as well as quality of life changes, including adjustments to combat and stealth gameplay. To learn more about these existing Title Updates, we’ve put together a useful overview of all the changes, fixes and improvements implemented so far – you can find it here.

Our next and 4th Title Update will be released on November 21st alongside our Steam release – and it’s going to be our biggest one yet, including new contracts which will be added free for all players, exciting new features and improvements. Stay tuned for more details coming your way soon.

That’s not all — For Season Pass owners, our very first story pack, Star Wars™ Outlaws: Wild Card will also launch on November 21st and will see Kay and Nix infiltrate a high-stakes Sabacc tournament where they will face off against the legendary Lando Calrissian.

For the collectors among you, we know how important Steam Achievements are – and this is why we are excited to confirm that Achievements will be available starting day one. 49 achievements will be available for Star Wars Outlaws, ranging from completing missions, or using abilities to building reputation with the syndicates.

Finally, to experience the Outer Rim on Steam, you will simply need to link your Steam and Ubisoft Connect account once. If you don't already have a Ubisoft Connect account, you can easily create one on the first launch of the game, which will let you keep your saves and progression no matter where you play and earn extra rewards by completing additional challenges. You won’t need to download Ubisoft Connect as the Steam installation includes a lightweight version of it.

Welcome to another Dev Update here from the team at Massive. Our focus this week is the weapons and combat of Star Wars Outlaws!

From the development of the combat system to recent tweaks we’ve made in response to player feedback, we’d love to dive in and give you more insight into the workings of this integral part of the Outlaws experience.

After all, a scoundrel is only as good as their getaway!

Outlaws,

One of the key pieces of feedback we hear is that there is a desire for a deeper and more engaging combat loop. In Title Update 1.4, releasing on November 21st, we are bringing big updates to enemy AI and your freedom of approach, allowing you to go silent or loud in all scenarios – more on the latter in a future update. Along with these improvements, we also revamped the feel and utility of weapons and core combat.

First, we’ve updated the stats on all weapons and enemies, making headshots more rewarding and tuning armor and health for all enemy types, to differentiate archetypes and make them more distinct. We’ve also added weak points to enemies which allow you take down tough opponents with a well-placed precision shot at the right moment. To bring it all together, new defeat animations and hit reactions have been added to make sure hitting enemies is as rewarding and gratifying as it can be.

Second, we took a step back to review what we would call “weapon feel”, to really upgrade gameplay mechanic aspects like recoil, fire rate, ammo and accuracy for every weapon, and we updated feedback in terms of audio, VFX and UI. The goal was to create weapons and blaster modules that feel distinct and rewarding to master. On some weapons, such as the Ashiga ABR-2 Zato Blaster Rifle, we had the opportunity to completely redesign the shooting pattern to bring out the weapon’s unique gameplay style.

Next, we reviewed and improved the utility of weapons. For Kay’s blaster, we added the ability for the Power module to hit cover and knock out enemies that were hiding behind it. We also updated the Ion module to stun enemies for longer and make them vulnerable to damage while they are stunned. Our intention is to give you more freedom and to make using the different modules during combat even more fun.

For weapons that Kay finds in the field, we made sure that you get to hold onto them longer, even when climbing and traversing the environment or interacting with enemies and the world. This change, that was highly requested, means you can now make longer term strategic choices, get more rewarded for turning enemy weapons against them, and have more varied combat encounters.

Lastly, we’ve taken a new approach to how cover works. The camera will no longer try and predict which shoulder it should be on, it will now be more comfortable and stable around cover. To facilitate this, we’ve added the ability to shoulder swap when aiming, giving you greater control and precision. Add to that a host of improvements to the animations around and reliability of using cover and we hope this will let you focus on tactics and action, rather than thinking about the cover mechanics.

All in all, we believe and hope that this update to weapons, cover and damage stats will create a much deeper and more engaging combat loop with more variety, choice and satisfaction.

As you’ve seen with our previous Title Updates, we’ve already made changes to the game and look forward to continuing to improve the experience over time. I’m very excited to be stepping into the role of Creative Director on Star Wars Outlaws and to be working with the incredibly passionate team here at Massive Entertainment along with our talented co-development studios around the world and Lucasfilm Games. I would like to personally thank you, our community, for your positive response to the game. We see and love all the fan arts, comments, and videos you’ve created around the game, and it continues to provide joy and inspiration to the team. We truly hope you’re enjoying your journey across the Outer Rim with Kay and Nix thus far.

I also want to take the time to say that we hear not only your positive feedback, but your constructive feedback as well. Thank you for sharing with us and helping us make the game even better. Today, I want to share with you the next priority areas we are looking to address to ensure that Star Wars Outlaws is the best experience possible for you.

From before launch and continuing into post-launch, we have been gathering data from and listening to you. This takes place not only formally through our analytics, user tests, reviews and media feedback, our Star Wars Outlaws Bug Reporter, crash reports, and other mechanisms, but also informally when we see your YouTube videos and Reddit, Discord or other social media posts. We deeply care about your experience with the game, and use all the data and feedback possible to see the friction points you are encountering, what you’re enjoying, and where we can further improve certain elements that matter the most to you.

Your feedback has already resulted in three Title Updates in which we’ve focused on fixing some of your biggest concerns such as bugs, reducing major friction points in some key missions particularly around stealth, adjusting the speeder camera and collision, and much more. That being said, there are three key areas in which we’re looking to improve the game even further.

The first key area of improvement to the game is combat where we see a real opportunity to add more depth and excitement to the experience, further rewarding your tactics and precision. Our second key area is stealth which is not only about improving the readability and consistency of enemy detection, but also providing choice in how you want to approach each encounter. Finally, our third key area of focus is centered around the character controls, which means improving the reliability of cover, increasing the responsiveness of climbing and crouching, and generally improving the consistency of the controls overall.

You can expect to see more details about how we will be celebrating and embracing player choice more than ever before, whether it’s sneaking through encounters, going in blasters-blazing, or everything in-between. We will provide more specific details about the changes to these areas and more in the upcoming weeks as we provide further updates to you. All of this will culminate in the release of Title Update 1.4 which will release on November 21st alongside the Steam launch and first story pack, Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card.
