Have you changed any of your steam deck’s performance settings? And is the game set to 60 fps vsync off in the frame rate menu?
Most importantly, is the hi graphics toggle set to ‘off’? (Edit: disregard, this is for the LCD deck!)
I’m curious if there is any power save or throttling going on?
There are really no deck-specific bugs to speak of. The other user was using default OLED settings for the LCD deck, which resolved once we updated the recommended settings.
You’ll need to be sure that the ‘HI’ quality toggle is DISABLED for the LCD steam deck; that’s the main requirement for the older model compared to the OLED. I’d also be sure you’ve got the frame rate set to 60hz/vsync off in the settings menu as well.
The strange thing is, the fact that it’s only happening on stage 1 is a bit perplexing as it implies *some* sort of throttling is occurring.
I’d be sure you’re using the recommended proton version (8.0-5) and you’ve got the other settings set in our steam deck recommended settings post.
In the meantime I’ll keep investigating this issue for you both.
It’s the Nov 5 steamOS update. It’s causing performance impact.
I’m going to investigate this further and see if I can’t come up with a fix.
Edit: ok, if you go into performance settings on the deck and disable frame limit, this restores 60hz. I’ll investigate further but we will update the recommendations in the meantime.
I’ve done more digging, and it appears this is a pervasive problem with the most recent stable update (3.6.20 - ref: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/92lOl6pClh ) . Unfortunately, it appears that this update also includes a bios level update, which is likely what is impacting performance, so a regression to a previous version won’t fix the problem.
Thankfully, for Rogue Flight and other games experiencing these issues, disabling the frame limit appears to remedy the situation for the most part. I suspect this may have something to do with the game recording beta that was rolled over into the main system OS release.
Hopefully valve will release an incremental update that remedies this problem on a system level.
