TIP: Config Mode
There is an external config mode for the game. You can find it by running config.exe, which is found in the same folder as the game itself... or you can right click on the Trails in the Sky link in your library and see 'Run Configuration' as shown in the image below.

If you're having issues with your mouse, try switching to the Input and the Mouse tabs in it. You can also fiddle with your resolutions, turn of high resolution fonts, and other things to help you with the workarounds for the time being.

This may solve much of your issues early on.

Good luck!

Another way to access config:

When you double-click a game in your Steam library (or click Play) to run it, it will pop up a box with an option to "Run Configuration". Select that option and press OK.

Suggestion:

Run config to use the mouse as your controller first. This game can be played entirely with mouse. Get into the game a little bit to understand what the controls might mean to you, then define your keyboard controls. Game can also be played with only keyboard, or with keyboard + mouse.

One control scheme I like to do is to have my left hand controlling everything but movement, while my mouse and right hand control movement. I love running around town while rotating the camera...so carefree and fun~

Another way to find located is in here:
"you hard drive letter ":\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Trails in the Sky FC
for the 64 bit users its should be like this :
"you hard drive letter ":\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trails in the Sky FC

For example mine is located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trails in the Sky FC

P.S Do not forget to run as administrator in order to make sure that your settings are changed.

Moved to bug reporting thread..

(If you didn't install Steam in Program Files, you might not need to do that. But it depends on the write permissions for your folder. If you have to ask about write permissions, then you probably already know what you're doing.)
yttshung: go to the big bug reporting thread here: http://gtm.you1.cn/app/251150/discussions/0/38596748671200630/ . It's a known bug; you might be able to find more info there.

This thread is about accessing and using the config utility.

Default movement walk .. eww :P
There's one button that's "walk/run".

If your default movement is walk, you hold that button to run.
If your default movement is run, you hold that button to walk.

Heya, quick question, what does "HAL" and "REF" in the config menu mean?

HAL= hardware acceleration (uses your graphics card)
REF= software renderer (CPU does the work, pointless for any computer that isn't decades old)
