Good VERY SHORT game. You can play it from start to finish in less than 10 hours. Considering the price, it makes me cry.

The first Hellblade game is my favorite game of all time. The story was incredible. The combat, while fairly simple, was extremely viscerally satisfying. Most importantly though, it is ruinously effective at portraying a realistic depiction of severe mental illness through its main character, puzzles and world design. It is, in my opinion, the most potent piece of storytelling ever put into video game form.
Hellblade 2 looks very pretty, and unfortunately, that's the last unconditionally nice thing I have to say about Hellblade 2.

The story is worse. The game starts pointed in a fine direction, with Senua pursuing the Northmen that raided her village in the first game. But the story almost immediately loses focus and never truly regains it. The narrative is so muddled that it even forgets what's real and what's a hallucination multiple times throughout, invalidating huge chunks of the preceding story as it does so. Worst of all, the story undoes all of Senua's personal growth from the previous game and takes every opportunity to disempower her in this one, primarily through animations that see her visibly struggle to perform even simple actions; from how it takes her what feels like thirty minutes to climb a hill at the beginning to the way she gets unavoidably smacked around in the game's ill-conceived combat sections.
Speaking of which…

The combat is worse. Combat in the first Hellblade was fairly simple, but fluid and satisfying, and owing to Hellblade 1's permadeath fakeout, immersed players and drove them to use the tools they had to simply get Senua out of combat alive. Given the horror-tinged tone of the overall game, it worked beautifully.
Combat in Hellblade 2 is, in a word, agony.
During combat in HB2, you have about two moves you can employ to try not to die as you slowly build up a super meter of sorts that when filled, lets you revel in the glory of what is essentially HB1's combat system for about five seconds. At all other times the combat is, sorry not sorry, stupid. Senua fights like she's never even heard of a sword before, swinging it with the speed and precision of a ninety year-old. When you do kill an enemy, the game fires off one of several admittedly pretty cool looking canned animations before another animation plays where Senua gets blindsided by the next enemy in the sequence. Whether she gets jumped on, tackled to the ground or just punched in the face from offscreen, it all adds up to ensure that no matter how skilled the player is, Senua never feels like a competent warrior wading into combat, deftly dispatching hordes of enemies, but rather a mewling pinball that staggers freshly battered out of every combat encounter.

Given my love for Hellblade: Senua's Sarifice, HB2 is quite possibly the most let down I have ever been by a game. Every single narrative decision is nonsensical and gives the impression that the devs really had no clear direction for the story and changed their minds multiple times during development. A few major story beats from HB1 are even effectively un-resolved just so they can be brought back up in this game, only to go nowhere. In combat, as well as general traversal, control is taken from the player so often that it’s sometimes hard to tell when you're actually allowed to do anything. But the greatest atrocity this game commits is the disempowerment and utter disrespect of such a well-drawn character as Hellblade 1's Senua.

As far as I'm concerned, Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga never happened. Honestly, thinking about it just makes me mad, even six months later. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice absolutely did not need a sequel, but Senua the character absolutely did not deserve Hellblade 2.

Let's start with the graphics. UE5. It's so realistic that sometimes you feel like you're watching a movie, the overall picture quality is simply indescribable.
Throughout the game, I kept stopping to take a couple of screenshots, the landscapes are incredible!

As for the plot. I'll be brief, no spoilers. A sequel to the first part. Still just as good, thought-provoking.

Gameplay. I remember seeing a bunch of comments on the release about how the developers made it worse, I'll say this, as for me, they slightly reworked the combat, but otherwise it's the same game, even better.

In the end. As I said, I highly recommend buying the game. You clearly won't regret it.
