In case you're not aware yet, in the job list select any nearby city in the map to filtering out available jobs only on that city and surrounding areas.
If by chance you select External Contracts when at the icon it may show you more (and different) jobs. Or as suggested above, if takes some time to reach the company, some jobs may have expired or more spawned new.
I guess it's a bit confusing if you haven't played these games before :)
I guess that's when I press the map and the grey circle for where the city is? I've had some problems there when it gives me the surrounding area as well. So, picking up a new contract can sometimes take 1.5h(Ingame time), where I usually like to just get the ones very closeby
But clicking on the city will still narrow the search down considerably from showing loads all across the map, so it's still worth doing. Then you can look at all the jobs on offer there - they state their expiration time on them. So you can check that, and look at your map navigation to see approx how long it would take you to drive there. Then you can tell roughly if you can make it in time, or if it may expire before you arrive. And if there are any that are a few hours' driving away, you can just skip those and look for the ones that are in the city itself.
