"New-ish" Which one to buy?
TL:DR - - I'll try to keep this brief (sorry if it ends up being long) but in a jiffy, just which one should I "buy"/play? Division 1 or 2? (I figured come to the 2 forums/discussions to ask, simply because it's the "newest", so, possibly "more" players etc.).

/////
a LONGER, more in depth question (and to help get a "better" answer) or description is below.

I'm not completely "new" to "The Division", I played one of those "timed" trial periods for the 1st one.

So, My main thing, is i'm not really trying to do Multiplayer (and YES, i'm AWARE this game is heavily focused on it, but "I" was personally able to play the game solo and have fun during my "timed" trial experience.) and personally I think the story is garbage (one of the "ONLY" arguments I ever really see being mentioned as to why you shouldn't "skip" to warlords etc.) I'm really only interested in playing solo and being in NYC. I thought the "area" in the first one was absolutely awesome (and imho, WHY they went back to it in D2) Washington DC, sadly, just does nothing for me. the settling alone, is already boring, mixed with a story IDC about. it's hard for me to see "why" I would even bother with The Division 2.

but it's "WHY" I AM here. I've only done part 1. I have no idea if 2 is any "better" by that, I simply mean, with many other games, the "next" installment, generally adds stuff, makes the mechanics better, better graphics etc.

So, seeing as NYC "IS" in part 2 and it looks like YOU "CAN" skip all of the DC stuff and just head straight into NYC. that's more so of my question.

from a single player perspective, who doesn't care about the story, and just wants to play in NYC, is it even worth getting 2? or just sticking with 1, since 1's entire game is focused on NYC not just an "expansion".

I have no idea how "big" D2's NYC is (compared to part 1, or if just literally the same) or if 2 idk just added better mechanics and quality of life kinda stuff. aka 2 may just be the better game etc. terms of mechanics and graphics and all that.

I figured ask the "community" who plays the actual games.

should I buy the division 1? or does 2 add more and it's a better game and the NYC stuff is pretty much what you're getting in 1 just with again, better mechanics and all that stuff.

thanks for any information. again, sorry if i made it long, i just wanted to explain what "I'm" personally looking for in the game, so that would help people better say, skip this, pick that over that etc.

thx again for any and all input <3 :BloodRayne:

Buy part 1 if you want to go through the story and immerse yourself in the atmosphere (and also run around the subway and Survival). I advise you to collect all the finds (audio / video) - they are great. But part 1 has almost no online, and global events are disabled (and it is not known whether they will work again).
Well, part 2 is for a long game, finding comrades and jointly completing raids and other activities including pvp.

TD1 and TD2 - significantly differ in atmosphere, visually, and (partially) gameplay, and therefore there will be no sense of deja vu (with the exception of ttk :winter2019tiredyul: ).
Div 1 - ambience, story
Div 2 - gameplay, online player count (endgame=more players)
Imo get Div 2
Thanks for Both of the responses I got from @h1ghpr13st and @... Sadness.exe (Also to anyone else who cares to share in the future).

It looks like Division 1 is what "I'm" looking for then. I know what I wrote was long (hence the TL:DR stuff) but yah, i'm not interested in story or playing with others (at all). the story imho isn't that great (just me) and I prefer to play solo, unbothered. So Div 1 seems, like everything i'm looking for. aimed at more so solo play (cause a lot of the multiplayer stuff is disabled or whatever anyways) and to just idk run around NYC. what "drew" me into this game (or franchise if you will) when I did the trial, was purely the atmosphere. I think they nailed NYC in a chaotic fashion pretty well. n just walking around, idk, was cool. I'd have enough fun, to just explore NYC (solo) and just enjoy whatever aspects of the game i'm able to then.

I was more so afraid, that, getting 1, maybe i'd miss out on idk just more "updated" stuff. things maybe they added into div 2 that weren't in 1. but as i'm not into the "story", I def don't want to play with anyone and the setting for div 2 (DC) does nothing for me.

I asked this question, just so I wouldn't "waste" money if you will, I just wanted to buy "one" and didn't know if 2's NYC "DLC" and whatever upgrades it has vs one would be worth it but honestly what @... Sadness.exe said is pretty much what I was looking for.

Seems like Div 2 DOES have stuff that Div 1 didn't have (game play mechanics etc.) but at the end of the day. it def seems like Div 2 is if you want more of that story and multiplayer factor, div 1 is if you want to just immerse yourself in NYC and go solo etc.

So Div 1 for me. Thx again for all the input and any other future input. I "may" consider buying part 2 down the lines but atm, it just seems like div 1 is what i'm looking. Just wanna do NYC solo, pretty much. atmosphere and the whole idk looter shooter stuff, that was enough for me. story....ehhh, playing with others, not my thing, never will be my thing lol so, aside from "installment updates" (aka what the next installment of a franchise gets etc.) I don't think I'm "missing" out on anything with div 2, as it won't do anything for me. I wouldn't even do the DC aspect (would just skip straight to NYC DLC) n again, not into the story or playing with others.

it's just one of those things that maybe i'll check out div 2 on a sale or something but "one" to buy like over the other, i'm going with Div 1 for now.

Thx again for all the feedback and advice! <3 :BloodRayne:
Certain mission is for coop only. Like raid and incursion for exclusive exotic items.

Don't get any of it full price.

does this apply to both games? or is this more focused on Div 2 since it's more multiplayer focused etc. idk one comment above said most of the stuff in div 1 is solo and most of the "multiplayer" aspects of Div 1 are non existent. where I am also aware this is a "looter shooter" (aka, rare gun drops/loot etc.) as I've mentioned before, I guess I'm "interested" in this game/franchise for a lot of other reasons than most other players (who like this franchise)but i'll be absolutely "fine" without idk "EPIC LEGENDARY ULTIMATE MAX RARE GUN" etc. lol

full circle, (using div 1 as the example cause i feel that's what i'm going with still) I'm just interested in running around a destroyed NYC solo. long as the "main" game (if you will) can be played and "enjoyed" solo (which I have read, it's do-able, the whole "build" stuff doesn't really matter unless you trying to PvP etc.) that's truly all I really care about.

I did "try" this game on a trial and to be fair (just MY opinion) the story is pretty garbage. I mean aye, to each their own, and if others (again, the people who "like" this franchise, again, i'm NEW.) enjoy it. power to them. it's just why Div 2 does even "less" for me. you take a story I already don't care about and don't find interesting and now put it into a place i don't care about or find interesting (DC) you already lost me before the game even came out lol

that's just how "I" feel lol

but yah, i'm aware I may not be able to "100%" the game, or get like all the "amazing rare" guns/loot. i'll Live with that. my "goal" truly is just atmosphere and immersion. i'm prob going to skip whatever cut-scenes you can (cause again, just not interested in the "story") and as long as I can walk around, keep "progressing" in the game, eventually "beat" the "story" etc. and do that all "solo" all I really want.

it's like if all of Div 1 multi was gone and it was 100% now "only" an offline like solo game, I wouldn't even be here asking questions. lol

I'm coming from a free trial, complete darkness of what div 2 holds (and why i said i'm AWARE there is a NYC DLC in div 2 and you can SKIP right to it etc, but again, is it even as "big" as the first? or merely a DLC they gave more so to the Div 2 players for "end game" stuff etc.) and it's why I'm here asking "players" what they think I should get, based on what I'm looking for.

it looks like both games have their strong points and so far, it just looks like Div 1 is "aimed" at what i'm looking for more. screw the story, just NYC atmosphere and solo play. as simple as i can keep it. multiplayer does nothing for me, DC does nothing for me, and the story, as i said before i personally don't think it's good.

I'm here for the NYC atmosphere (that i def believe they nailed, I mean look, i don't even care about anything else BUT that, someone completely from the "outside" of this franchise, that's what "drew me in" because that's how good they pulled it off) to play in that atmosphere alone and just enjoy the game and the atmosphere etc at my own pace and without idk, other idiots, generally why i "Don't" play with others.

others may "feel" playing with other people "adds" to their experience. it just does the complete opposite for me.

dead by daylight is a GREAT example (i'll be brief, as it's unrelated to this but just to give my example) I ONLY play the "mobile" version of that game and it's because it's the ONLY version that "has" BOTS! it's pretty sad, that after all these years, they have never been able to add bots into the "main" games. lol I NEVER even TOUCHED those games, why? PEOPLE! comes to mobile, bots, man, i have such a blast playing that game.

to each their own, but simply, for me and my experiences 9/10 times playing with others, will just "ruin" whatever experience the game was trying to do (for me at least). i've never played a "multiplayer" game that "added" to the experience, is all i'm saying. aka playing games solo, is AMAZING, cause i can just do whatever "I" want, my pace etc. the second you add anyone else to that mix (even co-op games, before people think i'm just crying over PvP stuff, yah, no, i don't even do co-op stuff, i just don't like to play with other people PERIOD) that "experience" drastically changes and as i'm saying, i'm glad OTHER PEOPLE get idk "better" experiences (aka the game becomes "Better" than when they were doing solo stuff etc, look at WoW as an example, MANY people will tell you the "fun" in that game is raiding with others and PvPing etc, I completely beg to differ lol) but man my "experiences" just get ruined, makes me end up hating a game (that I prob would have enjoyed without playing with others etc.) and uninstalling it.

to each their own, I just prefer solo play. but thanks for that input, I don't think i'll be too bothered about the loot i get etc. long as it is always enough to keep progressing in the game, i'll live without the super rare exotic stuff. :BloodRayne:

oh I plan to still wait for a sale. if you look at the discussions (especially in div 1) they are already talking about dropping the game. which is expected and usually inevitable (like shutting servers down or whatever) but as long as you can still do the "solo" player aspects of it all. again, that's all I really care about, but I def wouldn't buy it at "full" price because idk, i'm not even trying to "fully" experience the game lol (aka the multiplayer stuff etc) as one post mentioned a lot of the multiplayer stuff in division 1 already got removed or whatever the case but just that it's "more" solo than multiplayer based anyways?

aye, if they completely shut down all the "multiplayer" aspects of Div 1 but you're still able to run through it solo etc. i'm good. i'll def still buy it but i'm def still waiting for a sale. it's why I'm here asking you all (owners of the games and who like the franchise etc) what I should get lol. cause i'm def not in any rush. going to take all and any feedback I can get, then once sales come around, make my choice.

so far, based on comments etc. it just seems like Div 1 is up my alley though.
Div 2 just keeps drifting off further and further away from my "interest" radar lol :BloodRayne:

legit

wait for discounted sale, which happens every now and then, I think it's on sale right now on Epic Games Store

I Just Picked the game up on Ubistore. it was on sale there as well.

I would have liked to have it in my steam library for convenience but what can you do, so many "stores" now and sales etc. I just don't have epic game store or whatever and it's one "less" thing I ever have to sign up for, create an account for etc and just for one game. at least I have a few games on my Ubisoft account.

So, for anyone Looking for Div 1 or 2 (like I was) check out Epic Game Store as mentioned above or the Ubistore. it's on sale on both.

Thx again everyone for the help/input. i'm off to play this wonderful game and survive in a chaotic NYC lol.

Perhaps, in the future i'll visit Div 2, just atm, what's been said about it etc. I just feel Div 1 is what i'm looking for but you never know, could end up wanting more after I beat it etc.

Thx again for all the inputs, Happy Holidays to you all <3 :BloodRayne:

I would have picked up two rather than one. Ubi is having issues solving bugs in one recently. There are people having more and more issues without a word from Ubi.

Two is where more people play at. The next dlc for two is scheduled for the first half of 2025. You have way more build variety in two than one. I have 1k hours in one 4k hours in two.

That should tell you something.
