It's pretty heavily inspired by Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2, even with very similar talent lines. This isn't necessarily a bad thing; if you had to copy a game, D:OS is certainly one of the better choices.

This ends up being both good and bad. The main issue is that the game simply isn't deep enough to support all the interactions that made D:OS so amazing, and a lot of the stuff the game copies just doesn't provide any real value. For example, the separate character inventory made more sense with multiplayer, but as a fairly classic single player RPG it simply adds tedium without providing any benefit. While crafting is on the list for something to be improved, right now it does basically nothing of note while cluttering your inventory with pointless items.

Other issues arise due to the combat grid vs. the free positioning in D:OS. Line of sight calculation limitations seem to result in all LOS abilities only operating in cardinal directions, making them vastly clunkier than their non-LOS counterparts. Positioning in general feels really bad as the maps are quite compact and navigation is significantly hindered by the inability to pass through your allies. The game feels very claustrophobic and it's not helped by the LOS limitations noted earlier.

All that said, the game is still a Recommend for me. It's still quite fun, and even if it's not D:OS, it doesn't have to be to be enjoyable. And that's hopefully something the devs will realize; simply copying the D:OS mechanics won't necessarily make a good game. But there's a pretty interesting base here, and keeping the scope more manageable with better polish could vastly improve the play experience.

Beautiful game. Still room for a few tweaks, but it's on a great path. I can't wait for gauntlet mode.

Love it so far! The presentation is great, the writing is engaging anf the combat is fun.
