Teammates you get on the road feels very random and you only get to swap one in middle-late game, and some characters don't really work well together. Can I just pick characters by myself? Or at least give me two options each time

i have a build that uses the bear to AOE the enemies down by bashing them into the walls. I noticed that there is a problem during the first fight where I kill all/most of the enemies in one turn.
