Anomaly Collapse continues the positive trend of animal-based roguelites of the last couple of years and comes out pretty well, overall. And if you've played *any* roguelite in the past few years, you'll be comfortable with Anomaly Collapse from the start. Your team of three (your chosen leader who defines some of the passive perks for the run + two randomly chosen colleagues you pick up on the way) advances through a randomly generated sequence of turn-based battles, moving from area to area with their own environmental hazards to be aware of. Your characters' quirks and styles determine the general approach you take to battle, while the various items and modifiers you scavenge or buy during the journey open the door for specific combos or tactics. The runs are relatively short (win or fail) but you unlock additional steps as well as character skills and passives with nearly every run, allowing you to take on heavier challenges from the get go in search of the fabled true ending. All very familiar territory for those familiar with the genre.

That's really the only real shortfall for Anomaly Collapse too: it's really solid to play and highly enjoyable, but it doesn't offer anything truly its own. The presentation is generally good but not so outstanding you'd highlight any of the visual or sound elements, though some of the animal character designs have a nice bit of personality to them. The plot serves its purpose but doesn't particularly engage thanks to the slightly clunky dialogue (which I don't want to put down as such because it's clearly due to the developers not being native English speakers, but the translation can be stiff and awkward in a way that slightly undermines what's happening). The gameplay itself keeps you engaged for a good few loops and it manages to reach that pleasant harmony between generally balanced but allowing for combos that feel pleasantly overpowered - but there's ultimately nothing unique to any of its mechanics that you haven't seen or played before.

Basically, if you're just looking for a nice roguelite experience Anomaly Collapse ticks all the boxes well, but I don't think it'll have the longevity of some of its peers. If you approach it with that in mind, it's a good grab from a sale at least.
