I'll always have a soft spot for the SNES one I played as a kid. The music was awesome, and while the difficulty was insane, I think we beat it after a few rentals. It was lots of fun. I love Oath too.

I swear to god the snes version of ys 3 is literally one of the hardest games of all time. I had a repo cart for the longest time; the game gave me a lot of hours of frustration and the most I've felt out of every single one of the ys games.

Good thing I did the PC Engine version then.

Protip: You can get max level in the first screen of Illburns ruins rather easily if you grind out the Banded Equipment by killing the blue slimes near the boss of the Quarry in the SNES version.

All you gotta do is stand ontop of a mound and stab upwards and you'll one-shot the birds that swoop in. You'll get hurt, sure, but when you start getting low, run back to the entrance screen to fill up and repeat.

If you're max level, the game gets a bit easier up until about Valestein Castle. Then it's just a matter of putting power ring on, and killing bosses before it can hurt you too much, and/or swapping between defense and power rings and trying not to get hit.
