How to change weapons?

How to mod this game? Unfortunately, it is completely unenjoyable due to the low flag and unit vitality, the lame control, and the inability to zoom. If it could be fixed on life forces or life regeneration, the situation would be better.

Had some thoughts after starting a new game up a few times, along with questions in case I'm missing anything. I love the art style and general idea behind the game.
