Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Just pulled the Trigger on a 512GB LCD Deck. Can't wait!
So, the Summer sale finally got me to pull the trigger on a Deck yesterday. I'm quite looking forward to trying this bad boi out. Hopefully they can ship it in a timely manner, I've heard here and there that Valve can tend to be a wee bit sluggish with their shipping.

UPDATE: As of 1:28 PM CST on 7/7/24, my order has been Packed!
UPDATE 2: As of 10:48 PM CST on 7/8/24, I just got the Tracking Number, and it should arrive on Wednesday! Let's Go!

When I bought my Steam Deck 512GB LCD at launch it took just over 7 weeks to get to me here in Ireland however when I upgraded to the 1TB Steam Deck OLED in April I was waiting 6 days.

I see. I'm in America, and I'm only one state away from the Illinois Warehouse.

#1. OLED wasn't on Sale. gotta get that tasty discount.
#2. I'm personally not as gung-ho about graphics and displays as some folks are.

You made the correct choice. It boggles my mind people will pay 600.00 for the same exact thing for a screen upgrade.

The bumpers are the worst part of the LCD steam deck. They are pretty much break after 1 or 2 years. Valve does not sell those daughter boards to replace them. One repair is pretty much the price difference between OLED and LCD.

In the long run, OLED deck maybe a bit cheaper due to that repair design flaw which Valve has not made an announcement....

Now if that were true then the forums would be flooded with broken triggers by now. Sure, you see a couple, but not anywhere near what you are claiming

You want to know what you see all the time? Black screens. Not trigger issues.

The bumper is literally the first button that will fail from normal use on the steam deck.

Anyone can find some random video of broken devices. Search the forum itself and black screen will be dozens of pages long
I’ll save you the time

Black screen 93 pages

Broken trigger 4 pages

You do realize that Valve has a pretty good support team that is known to forgive user issues. I do not think we will see multiple page threads anytime soon. They pretty much selling a decrease amount of LCD decks too. It common enough that they moved the button on the OLED.

This story is pretty common with the Steam Deck.

I'm just outside the warranty period (got mine last May) so curious how hard it would be to repair on my own vs how much Valve would charge to get it fixed/replaced? I'm fairly comfortable working on electronics and computers but I haven't opened my deck yet since I had no real reason to.

Update

Well Valve is freaking awesome. After doing a few tests with them and sending them a pic of the button to show there was no discernable physical damage they agreed to RMA my deck for free even though I'd reached out expecting to be paying for the repairs.

I am just annoyed that Valve doesn't sell the daughter board.

I believe this button issue alone gives Valve enough incentive to remove all LCD stock.

You used the incorrect search terms. The trigger is a reliable component of the deck.

The bumper has 17 pages. Valve has been pretty good with their customer service so the amount of pages should not represent the total incident in the world. I do not know why your search shows 93 pages. It should be over 150+.
