Why is this game dead?
I picked this game up shortly after release and while it wasn't perfect, I found it to be a much-needed addition to the tactical genre.

I figured it would get the ubiquitous DLC release schedule designed to milk the players for as much money as possible for each additional mode/campaign.

However, this game appears dead, zero updates since 2021.

No idea. Game was good. It could have been better but we stopped getting updates sadly. Hope we get a 2nd game.

yeah,a sequel would be cool. also multiplayer, play the story with your friends in coop. or a versus mode where you can play as gears or the locust against each other.

They even gave up on gears 5, it had a hard time competing with gears 4, rob fergusson also left, who took over from cliffy, so at this point it's just a shell of a company, with the IP but that's it.

I have very little hope for future games, and if there will be some, even less hope that they'll be good.

I dont see the need to make a sequel in a new engine. They can make more Tactics game with the same current engine. Just give us more stories between E day and Gears 1.

It's a single-player game that doesn't make it dead.

Agreed that single-player games don't "die" but I do think the game has fallen off in popularity.

My thoughts as to why: Maybe because the game only has like five mission types, and three boss fights, for a three-act game.

I also think part of the problem is that unlike a turn-based game like XCom, you don't really have any control and commitment to your soldiers. Your hero's can't die, so you have to reload if they go down. And your non-hero units, you can't really have a "career" with them because after every mission, you can recruit higher power soldiers. Yes, you can somewhat customize them, but there's no reason to stick with them like in XCom where you build them from rookies to full-blown killing machines. I didn't like this element. There was one scout soldier I was able to level up from the start of the game and keep relevant, but then the final mission requires you to take all the hero units anyways. So I don't know.

Game feels railed. The devs should have given us more freedom like Xcom 2 did. No side mission limits. Give us 2 types of recruits, civies and strayed CoGs. The option to choose what class our troops upgrade into. Small things like that could have made the game last longer. Story was great. I enjoyed it. I pray a Gears tactics 2 is in the works.

Too much repetitive gameplay, too few people on battlefields, no choices or gestion part. The game is too long for his gameplay loop.
First thing that happens when people try to play it is it bombards you with another stupid unnecessary account, for which you need a phone number. This has killed many games.
