Exactly. Only idiots would think that is OK.
Just because people dont mind dieing and experimenting on hhardest difficultys doesnt really make them idiots.
I too do like to test myself at times in games like these.
I play many games on hardest difficultys and yes, i die alot, but thatsj ust apart of games. You dont need to be 100% a no death run to complete these. Especially on games where ultra hard is perfectly doable.
I dont see anything wrong with difficulty achievements at all.
Except when 99.9% of players can't gain certain achievement and get frustrated with you as a developer for putting it in the game, thus preventing them from '100%ing' the game.
There's a reason why DOOM 2016 doesn't have an achievement for completing the game on Ultra Nightmare (only the first map).
Oh so you want them to put in easy to get achievements? They may as well just do you complete mission A,B,C..... Unlocked all skills, bought x gear. Not exactly a challenge.
I have no issue with games having an achievement I get manage to get. Love to plat/100% several games but as I lack the skill/patience to gain some that doesn't detract from my enjoyment of playing the game. I've probably spend double the amount of time trying to play Kena on PS5 than I did beating it and getting every other trophy.
Ultra hard on this means pay attention to gear, modifications, and plan your attacks. Oh and I'd recommend doing Frozen Wilds for a spear you can Modify and Bows that have Overdraw ability so they do more damage. Skill wise it's not as hard as some other games like the one mentioned above
Walk in peace...
This is also the first time I heard about backlash on this achievement in particilair.
If you played Prey (2017) on nightmare difficulty, you can compare it to that as an example.
Its not impossible t o beat this game on ultra hard tbh.
I feel like we are not talking about the same thing.
CURRENTLY, there is an achievement for completing Ultra Hard on New Game+. Which means you can do NG+, NG++, NG+++, collecting many copies of the super OP modifications from the DLC area, and then, AFTER you are Level 60 overpowered slayer with 100'000 Metal Shards, and 2000 of each ingredient, go for Ultra Hard. Which mean you won't need to buy at 4x prices, your weapons will be very powerful, your Stealth will be 70% etc. YES, that is very doable.
However, the OP is asking why there is no achievement for doing Ultra Hard from the beginning. Meaning "Baby Aloy" and "one silly bow Aloy" and "no Stealth Aloy" and "Level 1 Aloy", doing 1/4 damage and paying 4x as much for any purchase.
And I claim that such gameplay is insanely tedious for 99.9% of players, so they would not be willing to put up with it. They would bombard SONY/Guerilla with requests to change it, they might review-bomb the game for that decision, etc. etc.
That is ALL I'm saying.
To say this will lead to review bomb, nah.... I doubt so.
