Ok, just letting you know the formula used to calculate the TE of the steam locos. Not sure how the 235 kN was derived, when calculations specify 254 kN.

I have specialist books here, also about the 42 series. 235kN are also specified there, so I see no reason to trust on any private website. But feel free to adjust the values on your hard drive as you like, although the one in TPF2 doesn't make much of a difference anyway.

Hi Maik C,

Again here the TE seems abit too low according to the following formula and locobase data:

TE = (c *P *(d)^2*s) / D

c = a constant determined by the mean effective pressure and friction (usually 85%)
P = boiler pressure
d = piston diameter
s = piston stroke
D = driver diameter

Constant: 85%
Boiler pressure: 232 psi
Cylinder diameter: 630 mm
Piston Stroke: 660 mm
Driver diameter: 1400 mm
________________________
TE = 25,950 kgf = 254 kN

Ah! Interesting, thanks for the information, I honestly didn't know how the German steam classification system worked. Just out of interest, do you know the power rating of the BR44? Have a book with pictures of them pulling massive freight trains.

Yes and no. The 42 was a complete new construction, but:
KDL1 (also known as Class 52) was a light goods locomotive with axle weight of 15tons and 1192 kW
KDL3 (also known as Class 42) was a heavy goods locomotive with axle weight of 17t and 1325 kW
In Germany it is easy to differentiate there:
Steamer with numbers 4X are heavy goods locomotives
Steamer with numbers 5X are light goods locomotives

Nice locomotive. Am I right to think of it as a more powerful version of the BR52?
