Is there a way to make a mod that spawns AI controlled infantry squads in Skirmish maps?

Title. I like setting up defenses then watching the battle unfold. I'd really like to be able to spend my 1,500 points of income saved up and watch AI controlled infantry squads try to take enemy positions, while I keep my forces to do the surgical removal of high value /threat targets.

Just start up the Editor and choose a map.

You can set up huge armies there and with a little knowledge you can make them attack in waves.

Before that, you can of course build all kinds of defenses from trenches up to self-designed walls or fortresses.
