"After the fall of Shanghai, the next target for the Japanese was Nanjing, the capital of the Chinese republic. Due to the huge losses at Shanghai, the Chinese could do barely anything to resist the Japanese. The things that happened after were horrific; in the course of 3 weeks of Japanese occupation of the capital, 300,000 civilians and soldiers who surrendered were killed. This is known in history as the Nanjing Massacre[en.wikipedia.org]. Many other cruel attroticies were committed during that time. Although the Japanese government has acknowledged that the massacre happened, there are still quite a bit of people who deny such attrocities happened."
