The aim of this guide is to build a comprehensive list of old games released on steam. The age criteria is going to be left at this stage as a vague early 2000s.

• Can I submit a game that you missed? Yes. Please use the comments section and I'll add it in a future update.
  
• Why was this guide created? Because steam doesn't offer an easy method to locate old games on the store. While the release date on the game store page may be 1997 it will still be sorted by the date it was released on steam which may have been in the last year or so.

A good example is Thief.
The store page sorts it by the date it was added in 2012.

But the actual release date is the 30th of November 1998.

This type of sorting makes it difficult to find games that were released prior to steam creation.

I have possibly missed a few games. Just be aware I have done this on purpose with the sole intention of offending you. Please link them in the comments section so I can add them in a future update.

It's been a while but seeing a few have reached out requesting updates I'll make more of an effort to update. The list has had 300 odd visits which is pretty low considering how long it has been around but it's something I started so I'll aim to spend a bit of time Wednesday updating. Drop me a comment below to encourage me, it will motivate me.

07/06/2017 - Working on a big update - Close to 100 games to add.
18/08/2018 - Added 6 extra games. Realised I lost the massive list I had collected.
05/06/2024 - Added city building section. Added a number of games that have been released recently.
06/06/2024 - Added 3D platform section and a number of additional games.
12/06/2024 - Added 2 new sections horror and 3rd person shooter and a number of games I found.
19/06/2024 - 3 week streak woo!!!1. Would love to know where I put this 100 game list.
26/06/2024 - A number of additional games added. 3 new classic sections Beat 'em up, FMV and puzzle.
03/07/2024 - New games added. Visual novel category added too.
17/07/2024 - Sorry have to miss this week (and last) been busy at work with a number of projects. Will resume following Wednesday.
24/07/2024 - Heap of new games added this week.
