A guide to using the sniper rifles
Vytvořil: AetoTV
This guide will teach you how to effectively kill long range with your default sniper (The M40A5) and the TARS 101 scope (for now).

This guide will go through how to effectively kill enemies at long ranges, giving tips on compensating for bullet drop, bullet velocity, enemy types, radar help and much more in the furture.

This guide will be updated with further information over time and I will be accepting feedback as to what to add in further updates of this guide. Don't be afraid to make a comment and help the rest of the community!

I'll continue to update this guide with information related to any ideas you submit within the comments! Just remember that testing is needed within such a new game, so some information may take longer to add then others.

So far i'll be showcasing these in the guide in the near future:
> Elite Ranger perk changes
> Best sniper (within my own opinion)
> Material penetration and how it effects your shots
> Preferences upon which scope to use for certain situations

And that's it so far! if you wish to help me add to the guide, comments below what you want to see ^u^

Down to the basics
The default sniper is great for begginers and mid-range supporting classes, but lacks in the ability to go for longer distance shots without the knowhow and practice. To start off, we need to get rid of the 4x Acog scope on the M40A5 and go for a better optic. The easiest to get at the beggining of the game is the TARS101 scope, it provides 4.5x - 5.5x magnification and grants you much more bearable mil dots for use in long range combat.

This item can be found in the Pacura region.
At this point, there isn't really any point in trying to obtain a better tier sniper rifle, as it may lead to getting killed alot, this is because these weapon cases are in the higher difficulty levelled regions and the bases in which they are located in are heavily fortified and will be insanely difficult at a low level (unless you went at the lowest difficulty. Wuss).

Enemy distance compensation, bullet velocity and tracer rounds
Enemies vary over distances in different situations, obviously, so you need to compensate for the bullet drop that will occur when you take your shot. Shots will become noticebly effected by bullet drop at around 300 meters, this is when you need to aim up just a bit from the crosshair, not too hard, but longer distances will give much more of a challenge.

As well as bullet drop, when shooting at distances over 300 meters you will have to become more aware of your weapon's bullet velocity, this is the speed at which the bullet goes upon being fired from the gun. If it is slow, the bullet will take longer to land at your desired location, which will require more compensation if the target is moving. mastering your weapon's bullet velocity is key to later parts of the game where the Secarios constantly move around their camps and bases. To get better at shooting with your weapons set velocity, you must practice, the best feature about Ghost Recon Wildlands is that every gun has tracer rounds (for some reason) use them to your advantage in mastering your weapon.

Example of tracer rounds ingame (hard to take a screenshot, sorry)

(Definition of a tracer round in case you don't know)

Tracer ammunition (tracers) are bullets or cannon caliber projectiles that are built with a small pyrotechnic charge in their base. Ignited by the burning powder, the pyrotechnic composition burns very brightly, making the projectile trajectory visible to the naked eye during daylight, and very bright during nighttime firing. This enables the shooter to make aiming corrections without observing the impact of the rounds fired and without using the sights of the weapon.
How to use mil dots on your scope
The mil dots on your rifles scope are the black (or may be colored) notches that help the user compensate their shots over a long distance to hit target with accuracy. In real life, mil dots on scopes require mathmatics to measure the target with the mil dots and multiply their size in inches by the distance from where you are they where the enemy is stood in meters (or yards). This is one of the real life methods that help snipers get accurate shots upon their targets, but within Ghost Recon WildLands, it requires the knowledge to know which notch to aim with.

In this example, i am using the M40A5 with the TARS 101 scope to give you an idea on how to use the mil dots on this scope to kill at enemies from 100 to 500 meters (will update when i can provide further examples)

These are some positions that can show you roughly where you have to place your mil dots to kill an unarmored enemy. These work for me 80-90% of the time

100 Meter shot

200 Meter shot

300 Meter shot

400 Meter shot

500 Meter shot

Enemies
Each enemy has their own amount of health points, these effect how many shots it takes for your rifle to kill an enemy. Most enemies take only one shot to kill, but some armoured opponents need to be shot in a specific place to ensure a kill.
These are the most common enemies you will encounter during your travels throughout Bolivia.

Sicario Grunt

Weakest enemy type
Uses Smg's (can also use an M40A5 if spawned inside a watch tower)
One shot with almost any weapon

Armoured Sicario

Has more Health points than a Grunt
Uses an LMG
One shot kill from any sniper anywhere on the chest and head

Unidad Soldier
Has even more health points than a Secario Grunt
Uses assualt rifles (can also use an MSR sniper if spawned inside a watch tower)
One shot kill with any sniper from the waist up

Something a little extra

Each enemy type has their own way to engage the player, Sicario's are usually reckless and can be easily shot even when in cover. After a time after engaging, they will eventually grow tired and decide to rush you, so be prepared for that.
Unidad forces are highly recommended to be killed in stealth, if not, they will send out patrols to hunt you down and kill you and they will not stop until you either lose them, or you die.
There are seveal levels of Unidad patrols, the first chevrons meaning that they wil lsend small patrols to hunt and kill you, but once you kill more Unidad, they will send more each time, raising your 'wanted level', making them want to hunt you down with more force, sending in attack choppers and armoured vehicles.
Effective use of the drone and Binoculars
The drone and binoculars are the most useful tool to scout an area if you wish to make an assualt. They allow you to see at a distance to mark enemy positions and display their corresponding class icon through walls and on your minimap.

The Drone
The drone is easily the most used tool that you have, being extreamely useful for scoping out enemy encampments and bases from a distance. By default, your drone cannot go very far from your player without losing connection and disconnecting, causing you to wait for the cooldown, the same goes for the battery of the drone, this stops you from using the drone indefinitely, once it has depleted you'll need to wait for the cooldown too. Both of these restrictions can be upgraded in your skills menu under the Drone tab, these are all the skills that you can aquire for your drone when you reach the require level, skill points and resource levels.

Drone range is by far the most useful upgrade, it allows you to fly your drone further away from your character before disconnecting, this allows you to maintain a safer position away from the enemies so you don't get accidentally spotted whilst using the drone. The battery however, allows you to use the drone for longer, letting you sweep over the area as thorough as you wish.

But the one thing that stops the drone from being a stealthy option is that it makes noise, this can alert enemies if they are is hearing range and they will go looking for you. This can be easily solved however through the skills menu where you can purchase the stealth skill that minimises the noise your drone emits.

The Binoculars
Though many players underestimate their ability and opt out for using the drone, the binoculars are the tool you use when there is a jammer in the area, preventing you from flying the drone at all. The binoculars have a zoom setting that can be aquired through the skills tab and can be used for mid to long range spotting.

The binoculars however have a useful function that the drone doesn't have. A range finder. This is the most useful thing when attempting long range combat and can determine if you will hit your shots or not.

Enemy spotting
If you look to your radar when in close vicinity of an enemy, there will be a red circle (or purple if Unidad), this shows that there is an enemy located within the circles vicinity that hasn't been spotted yet. clearing all the transparent circles of enemies will clear the minimap and provide you with individual locations of each enemy. Depending on the amount of enemies in the vicinity will change the intensity of the circle, if it appears clearer, there will only be one to two enemies present, but if it appears to be an almost solid colour, there could be upto 3-5 enemies there.

This is what it looks like when you have unspotted enemies within the area

The enemy that was within that circle has been spotted and accurately marked, showing them as a orange (or purple if Unidad) circle

The spotted enemy now has their class icon above their head and some small information about them when you look over them with the drone or binoculars. It also shows the distance from where the enemy is to you
Enemy alert status and its effects
An ememy's alert status is effected by a variety of things, these things include when they discover your presence, dead allies, shots being fired at them and broken equipment (Alarms, power stations ect.) and a few more things atop of that. Enemies also gain more health once fully alerted, making it harder to take them down, especially Unidad soldiers.

Things that can alert an enemy:
> Being seen (Duh)
> Shooting (Also duh)
> Missing a shot close to the target (Even if it's suppressed)
> Destroyed equipment (Alarms, power stations ect.)
> Discovering dead enemies
> Shooting a suppressed rifle in a close vicinity of an enemy (even if it's not directed at them)
> Shots hitting the the enviroment near enemies
> Vehicle noises
(Anything I missed or should have leave it in the comments c: )

When an enemy is fully alerted they will run for cover and inform others of your presence, alerting everyone else. They will take potshots at you and gathering up to attempt to take you out. When enemies are alerted they will gain more health, so it will take more to take them down once they know you're there. This can be reset once your lose your enemy by simply running away or changing your position without being seen and they will give up on their chase eventually.

An enemy that has seen you but not being fully alerted of your presence will go to investigate the area where they had seen you. They will leave their post and approach your last seen position and whilst they're in this state they won't call for backup until they are fully alerted. While an enemy is in invesigation mode they will proceed to look aorund the area until they are satisfied, after they fail in finding you their alert status will be reset and the enemy will return to where they originally were.

How suppressors effect your weapons
Using the suppressor on your weapon is an obvious choice for when killing enemies silently, but each weapon is effected in a different way when suppressed and unsuppressed. For example, firing a sniper rifle with a suppressor equipped will alert enemies within a 50 or so meter area around you, whereas shooting an enemies within the same range with a pistol won't trigger an enemies alert status.

To begin, snipers are the most effected by suppressors by far. They are effected heavily within bullet speed, making the bullet take a longer time to land upon your target moving targets at long distance difficult to hit. The bullet of a suppressed sniper is roughly slowed by half compared to unsuppressed shots, potentially taking double the time to hit a target at range. Assault rifles and SMG's are also effected by this, but this is less evident since you most likely won't attempt a shot longer than 300 meters with a rifle. Pistols are the best for silent CQC (Close Quarters Combat), this is because their sound with the suppressor attached is far lower than any other weapon, regardless of the model (pistols that can be suppressed that is).

All suppressed weapons deliver a one hit kill towards the head of an enemy (within usable range determined by the weapons stats) if your are not within an alert. Whereas if enemies are alerted towards you your weapons damage with be significantly lowered due to their alert status (But this is damage drop-off rating can be overcome by gaining the ADV Suppressor perk).

>>> KOANI's salt flat is a great area to RANGE your RIFLE. I go out to the general location of the stuffed chair that sits between the airport and the eastern salt flat border. Pick a metal shed along the road or near the salt ponds. Shoot at the shed from various 100m increments. Note the bullet strikes on your reticle for each increment. I found I could calculate the correct reticle position for the 50m half way point in between by assuming a linear approximation. With this ballistic calibration data in hand you will be able to place accurate shots in the field. I suggest keeping a small notebook depicting all your ranged scope dope. Personally, I draw the reticle and place the ranges at the appropriate tick marks on the reticle. Those notes and careful range measurement will make you a deadly sniper - Santa Blanca beware!

Can't think of much you missed.
Try recording software for the pictures, then slow it down and take a picture of the video.
Or just use MSPaint+Snipping Tool, as it should come standard with any windows computer.

@Flugabwehrraketensystem Roland

A bit late, and just a minor thing, but I think they're just AH-1 Cobras; Vipers are pretty modern for a military like Bolivia, and the attack helicopters in game have 2 blades with only the rocket pods, which would be more accurate for older variants like the Cobra/SuperCobra/WhiskeyCobra, since the modern AH-1Zs have 4 bladed props. This is my take at least.
