Item Stats Guide
By XT
This guide explains item stats and what they do, including many of the formulas. Not sure what SpE, SpD or OL are? Is that butterfly ring causing you to lose 1 HP per step and you don't know why? Have you been giving the Educated perk to your Mage instead of the Cleric, even though the ID stat scales off of PIE, but not INT? Read this guide.

Introduction
Items have three different kinds of abilities: bonuses, properties and spells. Bonuses increase your characters stats, properties give items special attacks, and spells are cast when certain items, like wands, are used during battle. The spells may cause the item to become cursed, at which time it gives no bonuses and cannot be used again until uncursed, either with butterfly powder or by leaving the dungeon.
Bonuses

Items have a number of bonuses which are hard to understand due to them being so abbreviated in game. Here's what these stats do:

Name
Full Name
Effect
STR
Strength
Affects the power of physical attacks, both melee and ranged.
INT
Intelligence
Increases max MP and power of attack spells & items.
PIE
Piety
Increases ID, max MP and the power of healing spells and items as well as the amount restored by the cleric's self-MP restore skills, which give PIE/2 (rounded down) when triggered.
VIT
Vitality
Affects max HP (only if permanent). Every 2 VIT gives 1 defense.
AGI
Agility
Affects turn order in battle as well as accuracy, evade and open lock. The dual wield penalty is removed at 25 AGI: you get 4% off hand damage per level with a max of 100%.
LUC
Luck
Affects critical chance and status ailments, both when defending and attacking. Also helps ninjas hide.
Rst
Resistance
Defends against abnormal status.
SpD
Spell Defense
Reduces the power of enemy spells. Only obtainable from gear.
SpE
Spell Enhance
Increases the power of your magic. This stat is based only on level, class & gear.
ID
Identify
Helps you identify things. The formula is: 10 + PIE × 2 + ID bonus + educated (30) - max 95.
OL
Open Locks
Helps you ID traps. Formula is: 10 + AGI + LUC + OL bonus + intuition (30) - max 95
HP
HP Regeneration
HP gained per round or step. Can also be negative - watch out for Butterfly Rings!
Properties
The properties listed on weapons indicate their element (if any), as well as whether the weapon is good against a specific enemy type and what status ailments it might inflict. Items with Critical, like many katanas, are capable of instantly killing enemies if you're lucky enough. A single circle means that it deals at least normal damage (or defends against) that type, while a double circle is even better. If you are lucky enough, some of the status ailments like KO can be a reliable way to pin a single enemy down.
Spells
Spells are all listed directly in the item's description and they duplicate normal Cleric or Wizard spells. Wands can be used multiple times until they fail and get cursed, after which they must be uncursed either by Butterfly Powder or by returning to town before being used again.

Glad to help. Other people found the formulas, I just made it into a guide.

Thanks so much for this write-up! Decided to casually read up on stat information but was absolutely delighted to learn that stuffing points into AGI helps reduce the Dual Wield penalty! :Refrain_Heart:
