The Division: Tips and Tricks

Use Consumables
As you’re playing, you’ll notice that you keep picking up items like water, soda, energy bars and canned food. You’ll even notice that you’ll pick up some special ammo types like incendiary bullets as well as explosive bullets.

It may be hard to figure out how to use these items but the solution is extremely simple. hold the V key on PC to bring up your consumable wheel.

Be aware however, that these effects last a limited time – even the special ammo types – so be sure to use them when it suits you best. Canned food will give you a buff on healing, while water adds to your damage done to elites and soda reduces the cooldown of your skills. These can come in handy in certain situations when you’re pinned down, so you must not forget that you have the ability to use them

Help out Civilians in need

As you take your time strolling through the beautifully destroyed and run down Manhattan, you’ll come across some civilians who will approach you looking for help. Be aware, not every single citizen can be helped, as most will flee from you when approached, but certain ones will approach you of their own volition.

Upon approaching, they will be scanned and it will show an item they need, like water or soda. However, if you do plan on forking over these items be careful, as sometimes the civilian will still get scared and flee from you – it’s happened to me a couple times.

Know your stats

This one may seem very basic, but the game doesn’t even break down these key areas until a good few hours in.

When you open your inventory you’ll see three categories up at the top: your primary DPS (damage per second), your health and your skill power, as well as firearms, stamina and electronics underneath. What you need to know is what firearms, stamina and electronics apply to, as certain gear will give you a boost in these categories and it will help you in the long run.

Firearms apply to your primary DPS and help with the amount of damage you do with your guns – big surprise. Your DPS is determined by not only your firearms skill but also the DPS of your current gun equipped – another big surprise.

Your stamina directly relates to the amount of health you have. The higher your stamina, the more health you’ll have and vice versa.

Lastly, your electronics stat determines your skill power, and how effective your skills are. So if you are using the skill where you can heal teammates, the higher your electronics value, the more effective your healing will be. Know these numbers and equip gear and attachments that will best suit you, either boosting up on electronics-valued gear or keeping your character well rounded in all three categories. It’s entirely up to you.

Dont sell! SCRAP it.
Over the course of the game you’re going to be constantly gaining better and better gear and attachments, so when you have this junk sitting in your backpack, the best thing for you in the long run is to scrap it, rather than selling.

If you sell this junk you’ll get some money in return which you can spend, but soon enough you’ll find better gear which will make that stuff useless, and then you’re back to square one.

On the other hand, the materials you get from scrapping this junk will never be useless, and you’ll never out-level them, either.

The crafting parts come in different rarities, so to make a blue gun you’re going to need some blue materials. Luckily, if you’ve been scraping these junk green guns sitting in your backpack, you’ll have plenty of green materials, so take them and trade for blue. Crafting requires zero money, only materials, so use that to your advantage and save your money for when you are nearing the max level and can buy the best possible gear for that endgame experience.

Helping civilians is good but be aware if you aim at them while they approach you they think your agressive and you may loose a chance to get exp for givin awaya bottle water food or a health kit. They will run so keep your gun lowered if you want to help.
