Step 1
Before Completing "Reunions" complete all of these main quests:

  • War Never Changes
  • Out of Time
  • When Freedom Calls
  • Jewel of the Commonwealth
  • Unlikely Valentine
  • Getting a Clue

Then complete all the Brotherhood of Steel's recon team's quests. Do the quest "The Lost Patrol" and convince Brandis to return to the Brotherhood. (I think this might be optional, but I'm not sure)
Step 2
Do all the minutemen quests up to "Taking independence", this will give you the castle.
After doing all those quests, complete "Reunions" and "Dangerous Minds"

Step 3
DO NOT do either of these quests: "Tradecraft" and "Shadow of Steel".
Continue down the Minutemen questline, completing these quests:

  • Old Guns
  • Inside Job

After gaining access to the Institute, I suggest you get banished right away after talking to Father, you can complete "Institutionalized" if you like, but you will need to get kicked out right away by attacking someone. Do not talk to Father after completing "Institutionalized", just leave.
Step 4
You should have the quests "Form Ranks" and "Defend the Castle" DO NOT start these quests yet, don't even go to the Castle.

Complete all the quests for the Brotherhood before "Show no Mercy", do not start the quest. This means you should have these Brotherhood quests completed:

  • Semper Invicta
  • Shadow of Steel
  • Tour of Duty
Step 5
Compete "Form Ranks" and "Defend the Castle for the Minutemen.

Complete all these quests for the Railroad:
  • Road to Freedom
  • Tradecraft
  • Underground Undercover
  • Burning Cover

Then complete "The Nuclear Option" with the Minutemen and that's it!

There are probably a few more ways to do this so I might be adding them in the guide later on. This is just the way I know how to do it, and how a few friends did it. If I have made any mistakes, or you know another way to get peace, please let me know in the comments.

don't complete the mission, mass fusion, and destroy the institute with minutemen, you can do all other quests before

This guide is needlessly complex, and locks you out of some unique loot if you're the collector type. The only things you need to make sure to not do in order to keep everybody on your good side is avoid any of the quests that villianize another faction.

(such as Tactical Thinking, Rockets' Red Glare, End of the Line, Airship Down, and failing to evacuate the Institute during The Nuclear Option)

However, being friends with everybody could lock Danse's unique perk out, since it's only able to be acquired from him after completing a quest for the BoS after giving them the Network Scanner (Which can't be done without siding with them, subsequently starting Tactical Thinking after completion)

you could play with BOS and institute quest line up until "mass fusion and do spoils of war" but don't finish "blind betrayal" or else ingram won't talk to you for "spoils of war" quest thus making institute an enemy after that defend the castle and nuclear option with Minutemen and issue evacuation order to be in railroad good side of course BOS didn't seems to approve it but they still friendly with player

Actually I learned recently that you can play all sides against eachother pretty much until they ask you to destroy the other factions, you can even play the institute up until Mass Fusion, activate Liberty prime, and even finish the game with the Minutemen but still have the giant robot stomping around the airport.

I have tried several variations of this. It SEEMS you can do the blocks of missions for each faction in any order as long as you don't step on any of the other blocks, in other words you can do any of the First Set of missions for each faction but you still have to do the other factions first set of missions before doing any of the second sets.
And you still have to do all the strings of Missions Prior to 'Reunions'. And you can start organizing the settlements right from day one, BEFORE you join a faction. Still trying different ways to play F4. It will be one of those games you never tire of.

how do I follow this since show no mercy happens as soon as you finish tour of duty?

Getting banished in Step Three seems to prevent 'Underground Undercover' from starting.

Orin Crest Yea...it doesn't say that you need to complete Road to Freedom but it's implied when he says not to finish Tradecraft (which comes afterward), though that's something you wouldn't be expected to know on your first playthrough.

Good news, I figured out how to stay friends with the Brotherhood, turns out you just need to pop one into the head of Father the second you meet him.
