Intro - Nigel, the overlooked explorer extraordinaire
Nigel has through this game's lifespan been called everything from brutally underpowered to just barely on par with the other heroes. I would like to contest this declaration by the general public.

Nigel is a class who needs support. In that sense he can't hold his own on offense or defense unless he has at least a partner, and any Nigel who attempts to go it alone will find themselves experiencing lead and gas filled lungs.

However, as soon as a Nigel has someone to support him, generally an Eliza, Sarge, or second Nigel, his potential truly shows.

Nigel is an augmenter, a hero to be placed on top of a solid team of four or three, which improves all the rest of the team's performance by his presence.

However something that needs to be said is that unlike the other heroes, Nigel is NOT for everyone, he depends on a person's reflexes and perception, which are things that have a limit to being trained manually

But, enough of the good traits of Nigel. You're here you want to see meat and that meat is just below.

Nigel's Loadout
Nellie

Nigel's primary weapon is his trusted rifle named Nellie. Nellie has 4 shots in one magazine and Nigel needs at least 2 hits to kill. Therefore accuracy is needed. As expected for a gun like Nellie the left mouse button will fire the gun and the right mouse button lets you aim down sight.

Revolver

Nigel's secondary is a revolver, which comes with 6 bullets in a magazine. As it only has 6 shots as well it also needs accuracy as you don't want to miss too many shots. The revolver is normally used to finish off an enemy which has been hurt with the rifle. Though it can be useful if your aim with the rifle isn't very good at close range and you would have to reload. Switching gun is faster and would keep you in the fight.

Machete

Nigel's digging tool is a machete and is used to gather resources by destroying blocks with it. Beside of this it is used to damage the enemy's cubes and cores if you get close to them. As a side note I want to say that there is no difference in world damage between any of the character's digging tools.

Spot Prey

Spot prey is Nigel's active and can be used to spot enemies. This will be explained separately later in this guide.

Bounty

Nigel's passive bounty grants the whole team resources whenever Nigel gets a kill.

Tiki Head

Tikis are Nigel's special block which will only shoot into one direction. The tiki will be placed facing you when you are building. Tikis also will be discussed later in this guide, with details of their full cone.
Spot Prey: The Toast and Butter
Spot prey is STILL perhaps the best active ability in all of Block N Load. The basics of the ability is that it acts like a very large (10 Blocks) temporary (10 seconds) radar. For comparison, the Radars that are placed only cover 9 Blocks out from the radar itself.

The new changes are wonderful and allow a Nigel to track much easier than before, with the smaller cooldown he can keep his scan on something for a very, very long time

What many prospective Nigels don't know is that it can be fired from a distance.

When you activate this ability, the scan occurs wherever you point, if you point straight down, it will be centered on you, but that's usually not its use.

By throwing this ability towards an opponent's base, the midfield, or your back field, Nigel can be the best scout in the game without moving an inch. There is no reason your special should EVER be on cool-down unless you are specifically holding it for when an ally is near their base.

Your team does not need to scramble for radar kills or be startled by the opponent's turrets, your team does not need to aimlessly search for the opponent's respawn points behind your bases, your opponent's radars will be easy targets for your team as they will know where they are without spending the bricks on a radar of their own.

This ability alone makes a Nigel worth having on a team.
Tiki Heads: A little piece of paradise
Tikis are another key part of being Nigel: If you don't have at least 10 down by the time the game starts, you're doing yourself a disservice.

Tikis shoot once per second in the range shown in the screenshot. (every brick is a hittable location) Tikis fire 4 projectiles, each does 5 damage, and regardless as long as one hits, 14 bleed damage will take place. During that time, the hit opponent is put into slow motion, which makes shooting the buggers much easier.

The first thing to know about tikis is that EVERYTHING in the game blocks their line of sight, glue, bear traps, caltrops, blocks. If anything is in front of it, it will. not. fire.

However, keeping that in mind, they are essential for dealing with ninjas: your arch enemies as Nigel.

There are many different patterns and makeups that work with placing tikis, so use your own disgression and experience to find what works for you.
Bounty, the offense's best friend
The most recent change to Nigel was the replacement of his passive to the "Bounty" ability.

What it does is when you kill an opponent, your entire team receives 150 blocks. No questions asked.

That's about all it does, but your team will love having you even more, knowing 8 kills from you gives the entire team a bomb each.
Not-Quite-Old School Weaponry
Nigel is a much more skill based character than the other heroes, requiring you to hit the target on every shot to be effective.

This takes practice: lots and Lots of practice.

The Rifle has a range of 80 blocks, and does 40 on a body shot, 60 on a head shot

The Pistol has a range of 20 blocks, and does 20 on a body shot, 30 on a head shot.

If a character is close to you, stick with the rifle until:

1. Your run out of ammo in that clip
2. Their health drops to or below 40

In these cases, switch quickly to pistol and spam them with it. Once again, it is skill based, so there is not much I can help with there. Just keep playing as Nigel over and over, and if you can't get the shots after a while, he probably just isn't for you.

Fighting the Enemy
In this secion, I'll describe some situations for fighting each hero.

If they aren't shooting you. the solution is shoot them over and over, so I'll focus on what to do against foes that pose a threat.

1. OP Juan:

You need tikis. Lots and lots of tikis.

Also, you need bear traps.

If they are smart and avoid all of this, you need a friend, because O.P. melts Nigel.

2. Cog

If they are close, RUN. They are slower than you, and with clever peekabooing around corners and getting the 2 headshots and 2 body shots you need, you can get past that unstoppable tank of a hero.

3. Sarge

Running does not work against Sarge, due to the rockets. Fighting sarge is a matter of getting to close range and dancing like the ninja does, firing off all your shots at their feet to prevent crouch shenanigans. If you run out of ammo in your clip, switch immediately to your pistol, because as soon as a sarge isn't threatened, they WILL gun you down.

4. Liza/Tony/Genie/Asterella

These characters have the same way of fighting them. Aim for the head, stay at medium range and you'll have no problem taking them out if they didn't have time to set up gas, mines or turrets. Just don't stop moving unless they haven't seen you yet.

5. Nigel

This is the faceoff that I see most Nigels making mistakes.

The trick of a Snipe-off in this game is that it is a game of chicken. They CAN'T kill you in one hit, and you the same to them

DO NOT crouch, that puts your head hitbox in a prominent position, stand your ground, and DO NOT run behind a wall, unless it is to restore health and ammo. If you are without those, your best bet is to just sidle back and forth, and learn to aim while in that motion. If you can do that, you will annihilate any Nigel who shies away from a direct confrontation.

6. Science

Run away if close, shoot if not.
Science is a surprisingly easy fight for nigel as long as you keep runnig when they close in. You're faster than them, so it shouldn't be too hard.
Tikis help, too.

The Importance of Height
Opposed to what most players might think, height in this game is a hinderance for nigel. The reason? Objectives.

You will get many, many more kills, but you will not be a true support for your team until you take off the training wheels and leave that comfort zone.

Having a height advantage helps you fight and find enemies more easily, but it's at the cost of not having a full view and range of motion for your cube's defense.

Being able to place tikis in midfield and replace the destroyed defenses near your cube far outweighs the amount of kills you will get from camping up high, especially since an offense worth its salt will be able to put obstacles between your perch and their approach.

Also, don't build towers, they don't work, ever. They tell the oposing team where you are, how to avoid you, and where to place a bomb to make you leave your waste of time.
Conclusion: Tally-Ho, lads
Nigel is excellent at applying pressure to the opponent, defending the base, controlling the mid-field, and fighting just about anything other than OP Juan and Sarge.

His abilities let him be useful in every aspect of the game, but his weakness to continuous pressure makes support from a second defender necessary for the success of your defense.

Over-all, Nigel is a team player, and teams with the three pillars of Ninja/Asterella, Science/Sarge, and Doc in place will benefit greatly from his inclusion on their team.

Good guide. Another thing Nigel is good for it taking out the army of 1-block wide skybridges that fill the map and watching the poor souls fall...

If you know how to build one, towers are good.

You just need loads of blocks to make them near indestructible.

Standing on a wall > a tower

Anti Commie:

That's a trap that a lot of new players fall into as Nigel. When you're hiding away in your tower, sure you're getting kills, but you have trapped yourself so that anyone who takes cover from you on the other side of the cube will down it without any resistance from you.

A true nigel player needs to stay mobile and always have access to the cube and all the angles that people would use as cover against you.

Kills matter, but not at the cost of ignoring your main objective

When ever I play Nigel I find him kinda overpowered when the other team does not have a sniper because if you can get to a high up conceled spot no one ever targets you and you can kill every one with ease.
