How to Play an Arena Shooter
By Big Sip
New to arena shooters? Die all of the time? Does it seem like everyone is cheating? This will help explain that.

What you are used to
Okay, since you are stopping here to read this guide, you were A: not playing games in the 90's, or B: not even born in the 90's. So, you have probably played other first person shooters before, such as Counter-Strike, Insurgency, America's Army, BattleField, Call Of Duty, etc. Well, everything you learned from those super-duper-"realistic" (I'm looking at you COD) shooters is useless. Throw it out the window. The only game that could have helped you here is Counter-Strike. Why? Because you don't aim-down-the-sights (ADS) in CS. From the first inception of the FPS genre to around mid 2000's, FPS games did not feature an ADS function. In fact, popular titles such as Medal of Honor and Call of Duty (I have been shown I was mistaken) did not feature this until later installments. This left little room for precision aiming and staring down the scope of a sniper rifle (although this was the only exception to the no ADS rule).
What Arena Shooters Are Like
Unlike what was described above, arena shooters feature fast paced attacks involving rushing the enemy, jumping like a rabbit, and firing blindly while backpedaling. The key to an arena shooter is to keep moving, and practice quick reaction times. Ideally, one would leave Vsync off in a game like this so as to not limit your rig's response time (which, with a 60 Hz monitor, is 16.6 ms). However, with the bright, neon lights, and such, I find TOXIKK to be near unplayable with a decent rig without Vsync, as the screen tears too much. However, this does not mean the match is lost because you needed Vsync, but you must simply act much quicker.

Now that you have practiced moving non-stop, and are able to spaz out like a lunatic, the obvious next step is to practice aiming. The secret here is that you do not need to aim for that awesome head shot, but instead, aim for center-mass. A center-mass shot is not as likely to kill an opponent in one shot, but will deal a fair amount of damage, and eventually result in their death. Head shots may be great, but they won't do you any good if you can't hit your target.
Final Tips
Now, we've covered the basics, there is one more thing to cover. You need to know when to fight, and when to run. Running isn't a bad thing, but in a match with a frag limit, you always want to deny your enemy a kill. When running, it is a good idea to know where you are going, and to jump when crossing an intersection, which makes it more difficult to hit you if an enemy is lurking around the corner. It is not a bad idea to look behind yourself and fire off a few shots at your pursuer to supress them, but be sure you are still aware of what is in front of you.

A small tactic I noticed that works to some success in TOXIKK is that there is a cloak function that is (by default) bound to the Q key. It does not last for long, but is useful near intersections to confuse a pursuing opponent. Furthermore, you can pull a feint on your opponent with the F key, which will make your player ragdoll, and play dead until you press a movement key. This trick works best in conjunction with being hit, somewhat like TF2's Dead Ringer.

Lastly, have fun, remember to keep moving, and that it's okay to use the rocket launcher in an arena shooter. It's there for a reason.

keep playing, and try to be fast in movements. I played barely 3hours but I was able to grasp the game mechanics quickly. Best advice I can give u is just keep playing even if you think ppl are cheating.
