TGV PSE Pack

The TGV Paris Sud-Est (PSE) was designed in the 1970s to modernize French rail transport and compete with planes, in a context marked by the rise in oil prices after the oil crisis of 1973. Initially planned with gas turbine propulsion, an electric engine was finally adopted, because it was more efficient and less expensive. The project had been carried out in competition with the Aérotrain, but it will be the TGV project which will be. retained.
It was on September 27, 1981 that the TGV PSE was put into service. It thus inaugurated the first high-speed line between Paris and Lyon, reducing travel times to 2 hours
Over time, a certain number of trains will undergo various renovations. It is from these that the Atlantic livery will successively appear: Renov 1 for the south-east axis, Renov 2 for the north axis, and finally Renov 3, a global renovation with the addition of the visual identity known as Carmillon, therefore matching the eponymous logo.
The last tri-voltage trainsets will run until 2013 active service, while the dual-voltage trainsets will run until 2021 active service, almost 40 years after their entry into service.
