This is a dx12 problem. I'll show here what I did to make the game work!

My solution
After hours trying to fix this issue, I got the idea to open the game without steam overlay, and it worked! after playing a little, closed the game and activated the overlay again. Didn't crash.

Other solutions:

  • "-dx11" on game launch settings. < It may work but performance is awful, only FSR 1.0 available.
  • Downloading "D3D12.dll", and putting it on < D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SILENT HILL 2\SHProto\Binaries\Win64 > (did not work for me)

I hope this helps someone. Good luck!

Note: Beware of using "open as administrator", the game doesn't read your previous saves and turns the archievements off.

Just bought the game, get this crash every time. I've tried running as admin, running outside of steam. Is this a refund situation?

This game was released a couple of months ago, and it is even nominated for one of categories in the game awards.

Why hasn’t this fundamental issue been fixed immediately?

I found out that administrator mode doesn't keep saves the hard way :P but after opening the .exe like that, Steam launched the game for me perfectly fine again
