Kuvaus
It is just after New Year of 1962, and the bitter cold that has been sweeping County Durham is finally starting to subside. You are the driver of an O4 2-8-0 that has been booked to take some lime from Parson Byer’s Quarry down to Bishop Auckland. You will first need to assemble your train, and then set off down the line towards the junction. This will be especially challenging, as you will be running tender first throughout! Duration: 35 minutes.

Note: The title of this scenario is taken from a folk song called ‘Santa Georgia’, which is an allegorical commentary on the decline of northern industry. Considering that the winters of 1962 and 1963 were amongst the coldest in history, I thought the title was fitting.

@chris The winter of 2022/23 is probably the closest most people my age have ever come to experiencing the extreme cold of those days in the early 1960s. Weardale does allow for lots of route combinations, thanks to most of the branches being interconnected.

Good run down the branch. It's a long branch at 25mph but still my favourite on the route. Talking of WLOS being best value, Weardale must be a close second with an extensive route and numerous branches. Unfortunately I remember the winter of 1963 - waiting for the bus to take me into school in Worcester was not pleasant. Having to get off a warm bus to walk up to school even worse. If I remember correctly it was far worse in the West Country and up North. Must confess was listening to The Beatles not folk songs at the time. Thanks for the scenario HS. Kind Regards. Chris
