Vigilance Class Lore:

Faced with a foe well versed in ambush tactics and focused on interrupting supply lines, the IVS found itself in need of a large fleet of well-armed frigates to take a home defense role. This somewhat large class of frigates was given the additional firepower and size to supplement decisive battles and to outgun smaller raiding vessels, along with additional armor plating to provide marginally more defense than contemporary frigates. Initial designs were quickly pushed to mass production thanks to the oversight of the Steel Sage, assisting the design bureau of the IVS by predicting its most necessary features, primarily point defense. The class comprises of ships with the designation F-03 to F-175, providing adequate home defense while the larger and more powerful combat ships were able to focus their efforts on the front lines and pushing into enemy territory.

Thanks to the Vigilance class, freight operations saw a 24% increase in survival rate. A reported 16 ships of the the total 172 have been lost in combat, though this is considered within acceptable boundaries by the IVS. The ship features a somewhat cramped interior, though adequate for combat operations. Point defense armament was found to be initially somewhat lacking, and four 30mm Gatling emplacements were added to the flanks of the ships to assist with this deficiency, pictured with a later refit of the IVS Vigilance.

Faction Lore, Entry 1

Motto of the IVS: Three pillars are lost where they cannot be filled- Our Fallen, Our Innocence, and Our Peace. Above them stands united Our Two Pillars of the People, Humans and Asterites, united beneath Our Great Blue Shield.

The IVS (Its Virtuosity's Ship) is the interstellar navy of the United Federation of Varakkia, a multi-planetary stellar nation stemming from a united people of Earth and a once independent alien nation hailing from Proxima Centauri. The two nations united peacefully and discovered a relic of an ancient civilization, a massive machine seemingly endlessly calculating predictions and outcomes for any event it was aware of. Uncertain at first, the Varakkian nation ran multitudes of tests through the machine and found it to excel in its given role with an accuracy of roughly 90%. While certainly not perfect, it quickly gained notoriety among the Varakkian people and it earned the nickname of the Steel Sage. Government reliance upon the Steel Sage quickly became near total as advice given by a machine is objective and more reliable than the inconsistencies of flesh and blood politicians, though supplementary roles to manage lower branches headed by citizens do still exist. Under the guise of the Steel Sage, the United Federation of Varakkia has prospered and expanded at an unprecedented rate, and for this, the Steel Sage has achieved a near god-like status to the Varakkian people. It is commonly referred to as "Its Virtuosity" among the people, and is the origin of the naval honorific 'Its Virtuosity's Ship'.

However, this burst in success hardly went unnoticed, and as galactic neighbors began to be revealed, it quickly became evident that were was a cost to heeding the advice of the Steel Sage. Attacks upon the Varakkian Federation began occurring from marauding vessels belonging to a clan of loosely connected colonies called the Numevi Clan, and while their ships are smaller and scrapped together, their threat cannot be understated. Supply lines began to be interrupted and large scale attacks at the Varakkian border by larger Numevian capital ships brought forth a need for further naval expansion. Their goals are clear with these attacks: to obtain the Steel Sage. However, the Numevians have little need to attack one target so incessantly nor would they benefit from obtaining the Steel Sage itself, as they are far too power hungry for their leaders to give up power to listen to a machine. Because of this, it is believed someone is paying them to do the dirty work for them. Who, of the empires surrounding the Varakkian Federation, remains to be seen.

Author's Notes

Thanks for the interest in my build and its lore! It's my first workshop item for Space Engineers though I've been playing since around 2018, so I'm a little nervous to put it out there lol

I do intend to create more ships to go along with the IVS and to further expand the faction lore with each new release, so I hope you can stick around :3 I'll probably be releasing a destroyer or something of the sort next. I kind of came up with the NASApunk-ish style of this ship as I went and it isn't my usual style so I'll see where I can go with it!

I'm aware that there is currently a slight issue with the custom turrets as I didn't originally realize it would be a problem, but the assault turret in particular has a risk of shooting the gatling turret in front of it. I'm looking to see if there are any scripts which may solve this issue, but if anyone here has any suggestions short of changing the design to allow for superfiring turrets I'd be happy to update the workshop item!

I like the overall aesthetics. Gives it a somewhat rugged Haloish design... also genius idea with the 'Image Converter' script. Nice!

Yes, though it isn't a live feed. I just took a screenshot of the view from each gunner position and pasted it into the gunner station lcd using Whip's Image Converter!

Are the gunner stations showing turret cams?
