There seems to have been a shift in tone in SEGA's strategic department.

All historic publishers, be it movies, music or games, became only catalog managers, selling online services instead of roms is their uninspired go-to move now.

When bigN killed virtual console to create a subscription based thing aimed to cattle old geezers to online features (along side with youngsters, more obedient in that regard), it was disgusting to say the list, but revealing as well.

This trend is part of the streaming era, evolution of digital era, which already harmed the concept of property of your purchase. If you want to create a new trend, two solutions: be rich and innovative (which sega cannot afford anymore), or simply preserve DRM free content.

It is kind of a cultural trench war.
