This is a 'tower of silence' which was a burial practice in Sassanid Persia. The dead would be left to rest in the open, with the intention of carrion and animals eating the flesh away until only a skeleton remained which would be bleached by the sun

Oh now that is a cool bit of history, I thought that top platform was for some guards to stand on it during some raid or invasion.

Though about the dead placed above earth, I've seen somewhere a documentary of some tribal culture that "buried" their dead above ground on a wicker platform similar to this, so their reason could be like the Zoroastrian belief of not spoiling the ground.

Third option, in the event of starvation, you've always got the "extra rations on the top shelf" wink wink if you know what I mean. ;)

funny cuz it is, its called a "tower of silence", as per zoroastrian tradition, the dead are placed on the top ring, were vultures would come and eat them, in an effort to not spoil the earth, atleast according to the Avesta.

This is what happens when you get stoned and spend an hour inspecting the detail of the siege map, not actually playing the game, still I can conclude they did spend some time and effort on the scenery. Though the door to that granary makes it look like a fuckin temple.
