Background
WARNING! This guide is translated from Ukrainian. If you notice any errors, please let me know.

In this guide I will tell you how to learn how to drive your truck, how to park with a trailer, how to drive a truck in cities so as not to damage it and how to feel the dimensions of your favorite truck. If you think that this guide will be full of videos, pictures and boring descriptions, you are wrong. Only real practice and nothing more. And one game will help us with this.

Today I want to tell you about the game from our favorite developers SCS Software, namely Scania Truck Driving Simulator.
About the game Scania Truck Driving Simulator
The game was announced in April 2012 on the SCS Software blog. The game is based on several challenges that will allow players to compete in selected categories. The game was released on June 8, 2012.

In the game itself, we will drive SCANIA trucks, one of the largest in Europe:
SCANIA is a major Swedish manufacturer headquartered in Södertälje, focusing on commercial vehicles—specifically heavy lorries, trucks and buses. It also manufactures diesel engines for heavy vehicles as well as marine and general industrial applications.

It is officially licensed by the Scania Young European Truck Driver Championship.
Scania Young European Truck Driver (hereinafter YETD) is the largest and most demanding truck driver competition in the world for heavy trucks in Europe, organized by Scania in cooperation with the European Commission. The aim of this competition is to reduce the chances of avoiding accidents, as well as reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and repair and maintenance costs.

The game offers various challenges to test your driving skills, including maneuvering and parking. You can complete tasks in realistic conditions, compete with other players, and even participate in virtual competitions with a rating system. The game also includes free missions with cargo delivery, like in Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Advantages:
  • Challenges for experienced drivers;
  • Rating system among all players in the world;
  • Improves truck control skills in limited space;
  • Allows you to feel the dimensions of the truck;
  • Low price.

Disadvantages:
  • Driving physics are slightly different from American Truck Simulator (Euro Truck Simulator 2), but not so much that it would be critical;
  • The graphics do not look as nice as I would like (considering that the game was released in 2012);
  • Complex tests, for the perfect completion of which you need a lot of practice;
  • No choice of truck, in the game you use only Scania R 2009;
  • No customization of your truck (except for color).

The following modes are available in the game:
  • Driving Licence;
  • Driving Competition;
  • Dangerous Drives;
  • Freefrom Driving;
  • Time Reaction Test;
  • Gallery & Media.
Before we take a closer look at each mode, let's talk about the rating system.
Rating system
Each challenge has its own rating system. This rating shows how well you completed the challenge and where you stand among all the players in the challenge:

Your place in the rating depends on the following indicators:
  • The number of points you scored in the challenge;
  • The time it took you to complete the challenge;
The rating is built primarily by the number of points. Secondly, by time. Therefore, always try to complete the challenge perfectly, and then chase the reduction of time.

What rating points are deducted for:
  • "- 10" points for collisions with cones;
  • "- 100" points for collisions with stuff around;
  • "- 200" points if you use exterior camera.
In the game, in each test, the rating of the top 6 players is shown (provided that you have connected your account to the Scania Truck Driving Simulator website) as well as your personal result:

1. You can view the records of the best players:

I recommend using this function to see how the leaders of the rating were able to show such a result. I have highlighted several non-obvious tricks for myself from the recordings.

2. You can view the detailed location of your result in the rating table on the website:

It is possible to view the rating tables for each test on the website Leaderboard Scania Truck Driving Simulator[www.scaniadrivergame.com]

Select the desired task:

And the table will load, which will show the global rating of all players:

In it, you can use the filter by countries or by task:

Freefrom Driving

This mode allows you to drive in the style of Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Free Drive mode provides two large maps:
  • Bonus: Scania Demo Center;
  • Deliveries.
Let's break down each level in detail

Bonus: Scania Demo Center
Located in Södertälje, Sweden, the facility was founded in 1995 and serves a variety of functions. It is home to Scania, where they test the strength and durability of their trucks. Scania mainly uses it to demonstrate their vehicles, both trucks and buses. The facility welcomes up to 14,000 visitors annually, from universities to engineers, and also allows Category B licence drivers to test drive Scania vehicles. There are three different terrain types - three kilometers of paved roads, two kilometers of forest roads and three kilometers of gravel roads.

SCS Software's review:

Scania Demo Center map with collectible icons located on it:

Collectibles are the small floating Scania logos located on the level, that you can collect. Once collected, three points are added to your score as a one-time bonus.

Collectibles disappear forever after they are collected and the only way to respawn them is to switch to a new profile.

Deliveries (Fictional European City)
On this map, you can deliver cargo to your liking in a large, detailed European city.

City Map:
Time Reaction Test

Includes 4 tests on different roads and at different times of day.
While driving (at least 50 km/h) obstacles will appear on the road in the most unexpected places:

Your task is to brake in time.
Designed to test reactions in emergency situations.
Gallery & Media

This section contains marketing materials, as well as historical videos, interviews and recordings of the YETD 2010 competition:

An interesting section where you can learn a lot about the SCANIA company.
Сonclusions
This concludes my guide. This game became a real discovery for me. It made it possible to look at truck management from a new point of view. At some points she challenged me, and every time I had a great desire to overcome it. It also greatly improved my driving skills in confined spaces. And now I have no problems playing American Truck Simulator.
Therefore, I recommend that you try this game and compete with other players for the title of the best.
