1973 Tyrant Striker Land Speed Record Car

After the booming success of their new Striker model, Tyrant wanted to do a publicity stunt, so they built this extreme land speed record version of the Striker. In this special model, they removed weight, the engine, and made it more aerodynamic. To reach extreme speeds, they attached 5 Bloodhound Model 800-SJ thrusters to the back. On the salt flats, the car was able to reach around 500 mile per hour! Tragically, during a test run on September 7th, 1974, one of the wheels became loose causing the car to lose control and crash. The driver was seriously injured but survived. The car was put in the Petersen Automotive Museum in 2005.
