The BAR had a switch fire mode that switched from fast auto to slow auto. This would make most sense with the SG552 because when you aim down sights it has slow fire.

Just here to add that a clip size of 40 is still accurate. A special variant of BARs were mounted onto aircraft as a turret gun. What made these BARs special? They had a magazine size of 40, not 20.
